Job Description
Lead Manufacturing Technician Position Overview The Lead Manufacturing Technician is responsible for leading hands-on assembly, installation, and field support efforts for complex electrical and mechanical systems, including large-scale switchgear lineups. This role combines technical execution with team leadership, ensuring high-quality builds, efficient workflows, and successful on-site client installations. Key Responsibilities Lead daily manufacturing floor activities, providing guidance and direction to technicians and assemblers Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and bills of materials (BOMs) to plan and execute builds Lay out, stage, and organize all components required for assembly of large switchgear lineups and related systems Perform hands-on assembly of mechanical and electrical hardware, including mounting, wiring, and integration of components Remove, replace, and install hardware as required during assembly, rework, or upgrades Ensure proper alignment, fitment, and configuration of all parts during the build process Travel to customer sites to support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of equipment Lead or assist with field installations, including positioning, anchoring, and final system integration Interface directly with clients on-site, providing technical support and ensuring successful deployment Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues both in the shop and in the field Enforce quality standards, safety protocols, and adherence to work instructions Identify process improvements and collaborate with engineering to optimize assembly and installation procedures Train and mentor junior technicians on best practices, tools, and techniques Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, organized work environment Qualifications 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, assembly, or industrial electrical/mechanical environments Proven experience assembling and installing large-scale equipment (e.g., switchgear, control panels, or similar systems) Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, electrical wiring, and hardware installation Experience performing field installations and working directly with customers Demonstrated leadership or lead technician experience preferred Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Willingness to travel for field installations as needed Skills & Competencies High attention to detail and quality Strong organizational skills, especially in staging and layout of parts for complex builds Effective communication skills, both internally and with clients Ability to work independently and lead a team in fast-paced environments Work Environment Combination of manufacturing floor and field-based work Regular use of hand and power tools Travel required for on-site installations and client support
