Full-Time | Temp-to-Hire Overview SkillsetGroup is seeking an experienced Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) / Welding Lead for an aerospace and precision manufacturing client in Orange, CA. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for welding inspection, procedure compliance, quality oversight, and supporting a team of approximately five welders. The ideal candidate will have a current AWS CWI certification, strong WPS/PQR experience, aerospace welding knowledge, and hands-on welding capability. This is not an inspection-only position. The CWI must be willing and able to step into production and weld when needed. Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain internal Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs) Review and verify Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs) Perform pre-weld, in-process, and final weld inspections Perform visual and dimensional inspection of welded components and assemblies Lead, train, support, and provide technical direction to approximately five welders Perform hands-on production welding as needed Set up welding jobs and verify completed work meets requirements Verify welder certifications and qualifications Inspect weld quality and workmanship against drawings, specifications, and approved procedures Read and interpret advanced blueprints, engineering drawings, and welding symbols Work with aluminum, stainless steel, carbon steel, Inconel, and titanium Support welding of light-gauge sheet metal through materials approximately 1-2 inches thick Identify weld defects and nonconforming conditions Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions Maintain accurate welding, inspection, and quality documentation Work closely with Production, Engineering, and Quality personnel Support applicable aerospace quality standards and internal/external audits Qualifications Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required Welding experience to AWS D17.1/D17.1M, D1.1, or equivalent aerospace fusion-welding specifications Strong hands-on
