Job Description

PhD positions in Materials Engineering at
Florida State University Research Vision:
The research vision is to accelerate the discovery and deployment of next generation functional materials by integrating advanced synthesis, in-situ characterization, and data driven design. The focus is placed on bridging fundamental understanding with scalable, real-world implementation:
  • High-throughput experimentation to rapidly and reliably explore vast compositional and materials processing spaces.
  • Empowering non-equilibrium materials synthesis to access previously unattainable structures and phases beyond thermodynamics equilibrium.
  • Advanced in-situ and operando characterization to probe dynamic material behavior under realistic conditions.
  • Surface and interface engineering to control reactivity and stability under operating environments.
  • Physics-informed ML-guided materials design for predictive and adaptive discovery.
  • Integration of robotics and automation to enable autonomous and scalable experimentation.
  • Industrial scale device-level validation to bridge the gap between materials discovery and practical application.
Research Areas:
Materials developed within this program target applications in: Materials for extreme environments (high-temperature oxidation and corrosion resistance). Radiation Detection.
