Job Description

Our client is seeking a Metallurgical Engineer/Metal Engineer to join a growing operation in Covington, Georgia. This role focuses on solving real production problems with real metallurgy—heat treat performance, microstructure, and compliance—not just theory on a whiteboard. You'll be a key technical voice supporting thermal processing, quality outcomes, and customer requirements across demanding industries. Compensation is competitive at $85,000-$110,000 per year , based on experience and fit, and is designed to attract someone who can confidently own investigations and process improvements.
The Day-to-Day:
Provide metallurgical support for heat treatment processes, including carburizing, nitriding, vacuum heat treatment, and induction hardening Perform metallographic preparation and evaluation, interpreting microstructures, and documenting results Conduct failure investigations and process troubleshooting, delivering root cause findings and corrective actions Support process development and continuous improvement efforts for thermal processing operations Maintain alignment with applicable requirements and quality expectations tied to AMS, ASTM, and NADCAP Review and interpret customer specifications, engineering drawings, and material requirements Create clear metallurgical reports and technical documentation for internal stakeholders and customers Collaborate with manufacturing and inspection personnel to sustain product quality and performance Assist with audits, certifications, and compliance activities tied to quality systems and process controls
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering 3+ years of experience in metallurgy, metal processing, or heat treatment (preferred) Working knowledge of heat treatment methods and metallurgical testing approaches Experience with microstructure analysis, hardness testing, and material characterization Familiarity with quality systems and relevant industry standards Ability to read and apply engineering drawings and technical specifications Background in aerospace, automotive, or industrial manufacturing environments is a plus
Preferred Skills:
Hands-on familiarity with vacuum furnaces and thermal processing equipment Strong capability in failure analysis and metallography workflows Sharp analytical thinking with disciplined problem-solving habits Excellent technical writing and communication for reports, findings, and customer-facing documentation
Pay Rate:
$85,000 to $110,000 /per year
