Job Description
at Element Materials Technology in Glendale Heights, Illinois, United States Job Description Overview Element has an opportunity for a Metallurgy Technician whose primary responsibility is to perform routine metallurgical, mechanical, failure, and corrosion testing to support metallurgy operations within the laboratory setting.
Salary:
$27.88- $31.73/hr DOE Responsibilities
- Read and apply specifications, procedures, drawings, and sketches to accurately prepare and test specimens.
- Conduct corrosion tests, heat treatments, and hardness tests (Brinell, Rockwell, Vickers, microhardness) following established procedures.
- Safely perform sectioning, mounting, grinding, polishing, and chemical etching for metallurgical evaluations.
- Use and maintain laboratory equipment and tools, demonstrating proficiency with a range of devices for analysis and collection.
- Maintain traceability, client confidentiality, and adhere to 5S protocols, safety standards, quality requirements and accreditations.
- Utilize computer systems and specialized software to record, analyze, and report test data.
- Work closely with managers and team members, provide regular updates, and support junior colleagues when needed.
- Handle moderately complex issues independently and escalate more complicated problems appropriately.

- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Intermediate proficiency in reading, writing, math, and computer applications
- Clear communication skills with the ability to follow and give instructions
- Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with laboratory safety practices and cost control awareness
- Knowledge of 5S and SQDC principles and their impact on lab efficiency
