Job Description

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE
, Materials Research Laboratory , to join a team to advance low-carbon concrete (LCC) systems, supporting a national initiative in collaboration with the MIT Concrete Sustainability Hub and lead experimental research to identify drivers of performance, durability, and scalability in LCC mixtures and alternative binders, producing high-quality data for publications, standards, and deployment strategies. Responsibilities include designing and supervising laboratory and pilot-scale programs; evaluating fresh properties, early-age stability, mechanical performance, durability, and environmental exposure; developing mechanistic insights into variability and trade-offs; contributing to lifecycle carbon and cost analyses, and assessing material availability, supply chains, and implementation constraints. Will lead publications, present at conferences, and engage with standards organizations (ACI, ASTM, NRMCA) to develop standards-ready language and industry guidance. REQUIRED :
PhD in civil engineering, structural engineering, materials engineering, materials science, or related field; expertise in cementitious materials and concrete durability; experience designing and supervising experiments; familiarity with LCCor alternative binders; strong data analysis and publication record; effective communication skills; ability to work in multidisciplinary teams; familiarity with standards organizations; and ability to contribute to lifecycle and supply chain analyses.
PREFERRED
: Experience with pilot-scale testing, lifecycle assessment, durability modeling, student mentorship, relevant software/tools, and development of industry guidance. This is a full-time, one-year appointment, renewable based on performance and funding. 4/9/2026
