Job Description

Metallurgy Failure Analysis Engineer Hagerstown, MD 6‑Month Contract Do you have a passion for metallurgy? We are seeking a skilled Metallurgy Failure Analysis Engineer to investigate material failures, determine root causes, and support product reliability improvements. This 6‑month contract role requires hands‑on experience with metallurgical testing and strong analytical and reporting skills.
In this role you will:
Perform root cause analysis on failed metal components using SEM, EDS, optical microscopy, and mechanical testing. Conduct destructive and non-destructive tests (tensile, hardness, NDT) to validate failure mechanisms. Interpret test data, microstructures, and fractography to identify failure modes. Prepare clear, detailed technical reports and present findings to engineering and quality teams. Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to implement corrective actions.
Well qualified candidates will have:
Master's or PhD in Metallurgy, Materials Science , or related field (or equivalent experience). Strong knowledge of alloy behavior, fracture mechanics, corrosion , phase transformations, and high‑temperature properties. Hands-on proficiency with SEM, EDS, microscopy, tensile and hardness testing . Excellent analytical problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Strong technical writing and communication abilities.
This contract position comes with:
