We prioritize safety and foster a collaborative culture where employees are valued. This Welding Engineer position is based at our Leland, North Carolina facility. The Welding Engineer is primarily responsible for ensuring weld integrity, driving scrap reduction, and supporting the optimization of automated TIG welding operations on stainless steel components. The successful candidate will work closely with production, quality, and continuous improvement teams to identify and eliminate defect sources and sustain high-quality weld output.
Responsibilities:
Understand and abide by all Company safety rules, regulations, and policies. Ensure that safe and sanitary working conditions are maintained in the facility in accordance with Company standards, as well as state & federal laws and regulations. Know and understand your OSHA rights. Conduct safety training topics as required or needed. Responsible for attending all assigned safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety training sessions. As required, promptly investigate accidents and near misses, completing appropriate reports and taking action to eliminate root causes. Monitor and evaluate weld quality across TIG welding operations, identifying trends and driving corrective action on integrity issues. Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for weld-related non-conformances, scrap, and rework. Establish and track weld quality metrics; develop and execute scrap reduction initiatives with measurable targets. Maintain and audit welding procedures (WPS/PQR) and welder qualification records in accordance with applicable codes (AWS, ASME). Support automated welding cell operations — troubleshooting process parameters, fixtures, and equipment to sustain consistent weld quality. Collaborate with quality and production teams on inspection criteria, accept/reject standards, and disposition of non-conforming products. Provide technical guidance and training to welding operators and technicians on defect recognition and process discipline. Support new product introduction (NPI) and engineering changes with weld quality input; process development responsibilities are limited in scope. Personal protective equipment must be worn at all times (ex. Safety glasses and steel toe shoes). Safety equipment is provided by the Company except for steel toe shoes, which must be provided by the employee upon the first day of employment. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing welding environment with a focus on quality and defect reduction. Hands-on knowledge of TIG (GTAW) welding of stainless steel Familiarity with automated or semi-automated welding systems (robotic, orbital, or cobot). Working knowledge of
AWS A5.12, D1.6, D18.2, ISO
6848 and other related specifications. Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, and weld symbols. Strong analytical skills with experience in structured root cause analysis (8D, 5 Why, fishbone). Preferred Qualifications Experience with industrial automation systems and PLC programming. Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and methodologies. Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential. Experience with orbital TIG welding systems. Background in pipe, fittings, or flow control product manufacturing. Ability to write scripts or tools in Python to support data analysis, quality tracking, or process monitoring is a strong plus. Work Environment This is an on-site role based at Victaulic Leland, NC facility. It is a manufacturing floor-based role requiring frequent walking, standing, lifting, and hands-on interaction with equipment. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams is essential.
