Job Description

Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) TAG - The Armored Group Shelby, North Carolina TAG - The Armored Group is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join our Shelby, NC manufacturing team. This role is critical to ensuring the structural integrity, safety, and quality of armored vehicles and protective capsules built to safeguard lives in demanding environments. The ideal candidate will oversee weld inspection activities, support production quality initiatives, manage weld qualification testing, and develop welding documentation in accordance with applicable codes, customer requirements, and internal standards. Key Responsibilities Perform visual and dimensional weld inspections on armored vehicle and capsule assemblies Verify welding processes comply with approved procedures, specifications, and quality requirements Conduct and coordinate weld testing and qualification activities across multiple production programs Develop, maintain, and revise: Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ) Related welding and inspection documentation Interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication requirements Support production teams with welding-related troubleshooting and process improvements Ensure compliance with AWS standards, customer specifications, and internal quality systems Maintain inspection records, reports, and traceability documentation Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to resolve nonconformances and improve weld quality Assist with audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives Support training and qualification efforts for welders and fabrication personnel Qualifications Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required Minimum 3-5 years of welding inspection experience in manufacturing, heavy fabrication, defense, automotive, or armored vehicle industries preferred Strong knowledge of: AWS welding codes and standards
MIG/FCAW
welding processes Weld inspection techniques and testing methods Welding metallurgy and fabrication practices Experience developing WPS, PQR, and welder qualification documentation Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and engineering drawings Strong attention to detail and documentation skills Excellent communication and teamwork abilities Proficiency with Microsoft Office and quality documentation systems
