The Senior Metallurgical Engineer will lead metallurgical development and production support for powder processing and brazing applications. This role drives process optimization, ensures product consistency and compliance with technical specifications, and provides technical leadership for troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions. The ideal candidate will combine deep expertise in metallurgy, powder processing and brazing with practical manufacturing and quality experience to improve yield, efficiency and reliability across production and new material development. Key Responsibilities Lead metallurgical engineering efforts for powder processing and brazing operations, including selection and qualification of brazing alloys and filler materials.
Develop, optimize and scale manufacturing methods to improve yield, efficiency and product consistency for components using nickel, chromium, cobalt, copper, silicon and iron-based materials.
Support welding and brazing operations as required, including collaboration with welding engineers to qualify processes and materials.
Perform technical troubleshooting, root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions for process, quality and production issues.
Create, review and maintain technical specifications, procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and production documentation to ensure repeatable, compliant manufacturing.
Drive process improvement and Lean/continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, improve throughput and raise first-pass yield.
Lead investigations, audits and compliance activities related to metallurgical processes and materials; respond to technical inquiries from production, quality and customers.
Evaluate and qualify new materials and manufacturing approaches; lead trials and validate process changes through controlled experiments and data analysis.
Train and mentor engineers, technicians and production staff on metallurgical principles, process controls and best practices.
Collaborate cross-functionally with R D, manufacturing, quality, procurement and supply chain to integrate metallurgical solutions into product development and production.
Provide engineering support for design reviews, failure analyses and customer support as needed. Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science or related discipline.
5+ years of progressive experience in metallurgy, powder processing and brazing; experience in manufacturing or production environments preferred.
Demonstrated expertise with powder processing techniques, brazing processes and brazing alloys.
Hands-on experience with welding engineering principles and familiarity with joining methods.
Proven track record in troubleshooting, root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions to resolve complex manufacturing or quality issues.
Experience developing and maintaining technical specifications, SOPs, procedures and production documentation.
Strong knowledge of nickel, chromium, cobalt, copper, silicon and iron-based materials and their behavior in processing and brazing environments.
Practical experience with process improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma or continuous improvement tools.
Familiarity with quality systems, audits, compliance requirements and investigation processes.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and present technical findings clearly.
Ability to plan and execute experiments, analyze data and validate process changes to demonstrate improvements in yield, efficiency and product consistency.
Willingness to support production shifts or urgent investigations when required.
