MSE Post Doctoral Scholar Department:
Engineering | Materials Science and Engineering The Department of Materials Science and Engineering within the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University is seeking a Post Doctoral Scholar.
Responsibilities are as follows:
Conducts research on advanced structural materials and additive manufacturing. Designs and performs experiments involving Laser Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) focused on steels, heat treatments, and mechanical testing; characterizes microstructure using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), transmission microscopy (TEM/STEM), STEM-EELS, in-situ TEM, and in-situ X-ray diffraction; and evaluates phase transformations and microstructure-property relationships. Analyzes data, prepares reports, publications, presentations, and research deliverables, collaborates with research partners, supports safe laboratory operations, and assists with student mentoring and proposal development.
Required Education:
PhD in Materials Engineering or a related field
Desired Education:
PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field
Required Experience:
Research experience in additive manufacturing of martensitic steels focused on materials science, including microstructural characterization, mechanical behavior, SEM, experimental design, data analysis, and communication of research results.
Desired Experience:
1 year of experience with metal PBF-LB, heat treatment, phase transformations, TEM/STEM, in-situ TEM, STEM-EELS, EBSD, in-situ XRD, fatigue, fracture toughness, and nanoindentation.
