Certified Welding Inspector

Job Overview The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) - Program Oversight Lead is responsible for ensuring the quality, compliance, and continuous improvement of the university's welding education programs. This role provides oversight of instructional staff, evaluates and approves curriculum modifications, and ensures alignment with industry standards and certification requirements. The CWI will act as the primary authority on welding standards, certification integrity, and program accreditation support.

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Oversight Provide technical leadership and oversight for welding instructors to ensure instructional quality and consistency. Monitor classroom and laboratory instruction to verify adherence to industry best practices and safety standards. Mentor and support instructors in improving teaching methodologies, assessment techniques, and technical competency. Conduct periodic evaluations of instructional staff and provide actionable feedback. Curriculum Development & Review Review, evaluate, and approve all welding curriculum content to ensure alignment with current industry codes and standards (e.g., AWS, ASME). Lead and coordinate curriculum updates, modifications, and program improvements in response to industry trends and regulatory changes. Collaborate with faculty and academic leadership to integrate new technologies, processes, and materials into coursework. Certification Oversight Oversee student and program certification processes, ensuring compliance with applicable certifying body requirements. Approve qualification standards, testing procedures, and documentation for welding certifications. Ensure integrity, consistency, and traceability of certification records and testing results. Serve as liaison with external certification organizations and auditors. Quality Assurance & Compliance Ensure program compliance with institutional policies, accreditation requirements, and relevant welding codes and standards. Develop and maintain quality assurance protocols for welding instruction and testing. Conduct internal audits and prepare for external program reviews and accreditation visits. Maintain accurate records of inspections, certifications, and curriculum approvals. Safety & Risk Management Promote and enforce strict adherence to all safety regulations within welding labs and instructional environments. Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions to ensure a safe learning environment. Q ualifications Required Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential (AWS or equivalent). Significant industry experience in welding inspection, fabrication, or quality control (typically 5+ years). Strong working knowledge of welding codes and standards (AWS D1.1, ASME, etc.). Experience in training, instruction, or mentoring technical personnel. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in an academic, vocational, or training environment. Experience with curriculum development or program accreditation processes. Additional certifications (e.g., Senior CWI, Certified Welding Educator).
