Job Description
ACS Manufacturing is a state-of-the-art design build manufacturer of acoustical equipment enclosures, fuel tanks, turbine systems and skids. We are one of the largest companies in the industry with over 750,000 sqft of manufacturing space across three states: Texas, South Carolina and Utah. Job Summary The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is responsible for ensuring all welding activities and fabricated products meet applicable AWS codes, customer specifications, engineering requirements, and company quality standards. The CWI performs inspections, maintains welder qualification records, supports welding procedure compliance, and works closely with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to promote continuous improvement and product quality at the Abbeville, SC facility. Key Responsibilities Perform visual inspections of welds and fabricated assemblies in accordance with AWS standards and customer requirements Verify compliance with Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and applicable welding codes Maintain welder qualification and certification records Conduct welder qualification testing and document results Review fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and specifications to ensure compliance Identify welding defects and nonconformances and assist with corrective actions Support internal audits, external audits, and customer inspections Assist in the development and implementation of welding quality procedures and standards Work with Production and Quality teams to improve welding processes and reduce defects Monitor and verify calibration and maintenance records for welding equipment Stay current on AWS standards, code changes, and industry best practices Provide technical guidance regarding welding requirements and inspection criteria Assist with root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives Perform other duties as assigned Technical Qualifications Strong knowledge of AWS welding codes and standards Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, specifications, and weld symbols Experience with MIG, TIG, FCAW, SMAW, oxy-fuel cutting, and plasma cutting processes Proficient with Microsoft Office applications Experience with ERP systems, but not required Strong attention to detail and documentation skills Minimum Requirements - Education & Experience High School Diploma or GED required Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required Minimum of 3-5 years of welding inspection experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment Experience performing weld inspections and welder qualification testing Thorough understanding of AWS D1.1 and other applicable welding codes Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Physical Working Conditions:
May stand and walk throughout manufacturing facilities for extended periods Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds Frequent exposure to manufacturing environments including welding operations, machinery, noise, dust, fumes, and varying temperatures Must wear required PPE and comply with all safety requirements, including welding-specific PPE (helmets, fire-resistant clothing) Must follow safety standards when working with tools, machinery, and equipment Employment Disclaimer This job description describes the general nature and level of work performed.
