Monitor welder qualifications and identify certification or qualification needs within the facility.

Work with the Weld Test Coordinator to schedule testing, maintain documentation, and ensure certification activities are completed efficiently.

Verify welders are working within applicable welding procedures and qualification requirements.

Perform visual weld inspections and evaluate workmanship against applicable drawings, weld specifications, procedures, and quality requirements.

Identify weld defects, welding inconsistencies, or deviations from established requirements and communicate findings to production and quality leadership.

Work directly with Weld Supervisors and Weld Leads to address weld-quality issues and support corrective actions.

Coach welders on welding technique, workmanship, weld quality, and compliance with established welding requirements.

Assist production leadership in determining when additional welding training, testing, or qualification is required.

Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, specifications, and welding documentation.

Partner with Quality, Engineering, and Operations to resolve welding-related quality concerns.

Support investigations into weld failures, defects, rework, and recurring welding problems.

Help drive consistent welding standards and certification practices across GPC manufacturing operations.

Maintain a strong shop-floor presence and serve as the facility's primary resource for welder certification and welding-quality questions.

Promote a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the welding department.

Qualifications:

Must have held CWI certification for a minimum of one year.

Strong knowledge of AWS welding standards, welder qualification requirements, and welding inspection practices.

Several years of hands-on welding, fabrication, inspection, or closely related manufacturing experience preferred.

Strong knowledge of GMAW (MIG/MAG) welding processes.

Experience with heavy-gauge steel welding and fabrication strongly preferred.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, specifications, and welding procedures.

Strong understanding of weld quality, common welding defects, inspection methods, and corrective actions.

Ability to make measurements and shop calculations necessary to verify compliance with engineering and quality specifications.

Strong documentation and recordkeeping skills.

Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to coach welders and work effectively with production leadership, Quality, and Engineering.

Must be detail-oriented, organized, and committed to maintaining high welding and manufacturing quality standards.

Comfortable working primarily on the manufacturing floor in a fast-paced heavy fabrication environment. Notify me of jobs like this
