Role Description The Mechanical Design Engineer is a full-time, on-site role located in Birmingham, AL. This position is responsible for designing custom web converting and material handling machinery from concept through final design. Day-to-day tasks include developing 3D models and detailed drawings in CAD, performing mechanical calculations, and collaborating with cross-functional teams in engineering, manufacturing, and service to ensure designs meet performance, safety, and reliability standards. The engineer will participate in design reviews, support prototype builds and testing, and provide technical input for retrofits and continuous improvement initiatives. The role also involves generating documentation such as bills of materials, specifications, and assembly instructions, and supporting customers and internal teams with engineering insights throughout the project lifecycle. Qualifications Strong mechanical foundation with skills in Mechanical Engineering and Design Engineering. Proficiency in Machine Design and Product Design for custom industrial equipment. Hands-on experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools for 3D modeling and detailed drawings. Ability to interpret engineering standards, perform basic stress and tolerance analyses, and design for manufacturability. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, or equivalent practical experience. Experience in industrial machinery, automation, or web converting equipment is beneficial. Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams on-site. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and commitment to safety and quality.
