Job Description
Description Early-career Mechanical Engineering position for UAB's Engineering and Innovative Technology Development (EITD) group. Develop viable mechanical system and component designs based on project requirements and specifications and assist in development, manufacture, maintenance, sustainment, and operational support of payload systems for space applications. Develop detailed engineering documents and CAD drawings for use in fabrication and assembly of complex engineering hardware and devices. Review and check engineering drawings produced by others for adherence to technical specifications and requirements. Demonstrate effective technical communication to guide fabrication and assembly efforts, and work closely with engineers of other disciplines to develop high-reliability integrated systems. Engineering and Innovative Technology Development (EITD) was created to support the development of specialized research instruments for ground and microgravity-based research experiments. US Citizens only. Key Roles & Responsibilities Assists in design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems. Support meetings, teleconferences, and travel as required by projects. Reports to EITD Mechanical Engineering Section Lead Performs simple and routine engineering design tasks with standard techniques. Assists more senior engineers in the preparation of plans, designs, computation methods, and reports. Gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. (
