Mechanical Engineering Specialist (On Site)

TC Fabrication & Welding is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineering Specialist to support product design, custom fabrication projects, and manufacturing development at our Diamond Springs, CA facility. This is an on-site role that combines mechanical design, CAD modeling, manufacturing engineering, and project execution. The ideal candidate will work closely with shop personnel, customers, and management to design manufacturable parts and assemblies while supporting projects from concept through production and installation.

Responsibilities include:

Designing custom fabricated products, weldments, sheet metal assemblies, structural components, and mechanical systems using CAD software (primarily SolidWorks) Creating production-ready models, shop drawings, flat patterns, weldments, DXF files, assemblies, and manufacturing documentation Developing manufacturable designs for laser cutting, CNC forming, machining, welding, powder coating, and final assembly Supporting custom projects such as emergency vehicle command consoles, fabricated vehicle components, and specialty metal products Performing design validation, fitment analysis, tolerance reviews, material selection, and troubleshooting production challenges Working directly with fabrication personnel to optimize manufacturability, reduce fabrication time, improve assembly efficiency, and solve real-world production issues Assisting with prototyping, reverse engineering, field measurements, and product development Managing engineering-related aspects of projects from concept through fabrication and installation Collaborating with customers and internal teams to review project requirements, resolve design challenges, and ensure deliverables meet customer expectations Maintaining engineering standards, documentation, quality expectations, and safe manufacturing practices Qualifications Strong mechanical engineering, fabrication, or manufacturing design experience High proficiency in SolidWorks CAD , including: Weldments Sheet metal design Assemblies Configurations Drawings and manufacturing documentation Flat pattern/DXF generation Experience designing for manufacturability (DFM) in welded and fabricated metal products Working knowledge of fabrication processes including: Laser cutting Press brake forming Welding and fixturing Machining fundamentals Powder coating and finishing requirements Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills for solving fabrication and fitment issues Ability to move projects from concept through production with practical, real-world thinking Excellent communication and collaboration skills with shop personnel, customers, and vendors Project management and organizational skills to support multiple concurrent fabrication projects Strong attention to detail, dimensional accuracy, tolerancing, and quality standards Experience with STEP, DXF, and fabrication-ready file preparation preferred Hands-on fabrication, welding, machining, automotive, or manufacturing experience is highly preferred Mechanical Engineering degree, Engineering Technology degree, or equivalent real-world industry experience preferred

Pay:

$35.00 - $45.00 per hour
