Job Title:
Test Engineer Job Description The Test Engineer sets up, executes, and troubleshoots tests for strategic projects and embedded hardware platforms in a fast-paced production and engineering environment. This role works closely with cross-functional production and engineering teams to ensure reliable board- and system-level performance, robust test coverage, and accurate documentation of test activities and results. Responsibilities Set up production test stations, test fixtures, and measurement equipment to conduct system-level and board-level testing and troubleshooting. Maintain, configure, and operate environmental chambers within the facility to support qualification and reliability testing. Review electrical schematics and apply debugging techniques to diagnose and resolve issues at the circuit board and system level. Provide clear and timely communication on project and test status to engineering and production stakeholders. Define, document, and maintain test requirements, test plans, and test procedures for hardware and embedded systems. Manage configuration of test assets, including hardware, software, and test setups, to ensure traceability and repeatability. Use a variety of test and measurement equipment, including oscilloscopes, power supplies, digital multimeters, spectrum analyzers, and other electronic test instruments. Apply electrical and software engineering concepts, including basic electrical wiring, connector removal and replacement, and mechanical assembly tasks. Set up, configure, and troubleshoot PCs as needed to support test systems and data acquisition. Set up, organize, and maintain engineering and production test labs to support a fast-paced testing and production environment. Gather, store, retrieve, and analyze test data to support troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and design improvements. Follow and adhere to all applicable manufacturing procedures, work instructions, and documentation standards. Perform both board-level and system-level testing and troubleshooting to validate performance and identify defects. Establish and maintain an organized system for tools, equipment, and documentation in the labs. Write new test procedures and update existing procedures to improve test coverage, efficiency, and clarity. Collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines to resolve complex technical issues and support project goals. Contribute a hands-on, results-driven approach to meeting test schedules and project milestones. Essential Skills 3-5 years of recent, hands-on test lab experience within an aerospace, defense, or space environment. Practical experience with electrical and software engineering concepts and electrical components. Recent experience performing board-level and system-level testing. Proficiency with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, and related electronic test instruments. Ability to set up test equipment, develop and execute test procedures, and contribute to test plans. Experience with PCB testing and PCB troubleshooting in a lab environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for diagnosing complex hardware and system issues. Hands-on, "get it done" attitude with the ability to work independently in a lab setting. Strong communication skills, including clear oral and written English. Ability to work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines in a team environment. Familiarity with Microsoft Windows (including Windows 7) and productivity tools such as Word and Excel. Basic PC setup and troubleshooting skills to support test systems and data handling. Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic electrical wiring and connector work. Eligibility to work on projects that require U.S. person status. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field is preferred. 1-3 years of experience as a test technician transitioning into an engineering-focused role is beneficial. Experience with software test engineering as part of hardware and system validation. Experience in configuration management of test assets and setups. Board and system-level troubleshooting experience beyond basic testing is a plus. Knowledge of aerospace or military standards is a plus. Familiarity with aerospace or military project RFP processes is a plus. Demonstrated creativity and self-motivation in solving unique and complex technical problems. Desire to lead teams and grow into roles with higher levels of responsibility. Demonstrated leadership potential and ability to coordinate activities within a lab or project team. Work Environment This role operates in a fast-paced test lab and production environment focused on aerospace, defense, and space-related hardware. You will work primarily in well-equipped laboratories that include environmental chambers, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, and various electronic test and measurement devices. Work involves frequent hands-on interaction with circuit boards, embedded systems, test fixtures, and PCs used for data acquisition and control. The position requires careful adherence to established manufacturing procedures, documentation practices, and configuration management processes. Collaboration with engineers from multiple disciplines is a regular part of the workday, with a strong emphasis on clear communication and organized lab practices. Standard business hours typically apply, with flexibility as needed to meet testing schedules and project milestones Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Simi Valley, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $39.00 - $41.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
