Job Description

Water and Wastewater Linear Design Engineer Do you have what it takes to deliver safe and effective design solutions through the engagement of our partners for the benefit of our community? What to look forward to:
In this role, you will work on water and wastewater pipeline projects. Water and wastewater pipeline projects include raw water and finished water systems as well as wastewater collection systems. Our water and wastewater systems include 200 miles of raw water mains, 2,200 miles of potable water mains, and 1,800 miles of wastewater mains with over 400 creek crossings. In this role, you will: Work with Engineers, CAD Designers, and utility partners with a wide range of expertise from construction field operations to project management in the delivery of raw water systems, finished water systems, and wastewater collection systems projects Plan, design, and deliver complex raw water and finished water distribution and transmission, and wastewater collection systems projects Oversee data collection, validation, and analysis for projects including utility locates, infrastructure and land surveys, geotechnical and environmental investigations, land acquisition requirements, and material selection Serve as the Engineer of Record responsible for all aspects of internal design for finished water, non-potable water, raw water, and wastewater systems incorporating safety by design best industry practices. Components of design include a basis of design report, 30, 60, 90, & 100 percent design drawing sets, engineering calculations, engineering cost estimates, permitting plan, construction specifications, design quality control review, and construction oversight and assistance as needed Serve as the lead project engineer for externally contracted design projects including drafting and reviewing scopes of work, participating on selection teams, reviewing, and advising on technical quality of submittal documents from external engineers and contractors. These documents include construction drawings and specifications, basis of design reports, permitting plans, work plans, shop drawings, and project specification required submittals Manage activities related to projects such as issues management, communication, environmental, real estate acquisition, permit plan, schedule, and stakeholder engagement (Planning, Operations, Construction, Project Management, The City of Colorado Springs, and other regulatory agencies) Report on program and project status to internal and external stakeholders Manage and develop quality control processes such as workflows, templates, standards and specifications, and checklists Ability to oversee the work of a team of engineers and support staff to plan and deliver pipeline projects in the design, construction, integration, and close-out project phases Serve as a technical expert and/or internal consultant to others based on engineering experience Mentor, train, and oversee the work of junior engineers and support staff Provide technical guidance to other employees and contractors What makes this job unique? Who You Are:
A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering is required Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is highly desired. Required within 6 months of date of hire Possession of a valid unrestricted Driver's License (operating Springs Utilities' vehicles is required for this position) Small and large diameter water and wastewater pipeline design experience Highly desired is a minimum of 5 years of direct relevant experience or a minimum of 4 years of direct relevant experience with a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license Design and design management experience of low to medium complexity water and wastewater pipeline projects with a construction cost of up to $2.5 Million. REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (1/3 of the time), and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary only if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other criteria are met.
  • Positions in this class typically require talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions within an office working environment.
  • In addition, there will be some field work involved (20% on average), e.
g., visiting construction sites, projects sites, etc., where there will be more walking than in a normal work day.
