Our flagship product, Boiler 2.0, is a modular industrial steam heat pump designed to help manufacturers reduce operational risk, improve flexibility, and modernize steam generation over time. Rather than forcing facilities to choose between reliability and sustainability, AtmosZero enables a practical path toward future-ready steam systems that integrate with existing operations and scale with customer needs. • Loveland, Colorado (onsite)
  • Full-time
  • Engineer II/III or Senior Engineer I Reports to: Vice President of Engineering Why this role exists Industrial steam runs manufacturing, and most of it still comes from combustion-based boilers.
AtmosZero is developing Boiler 2.0, a modular industrial heat pump that produces steam from electricity and air. We are integrating first-of-a-kind compressor hardware into a 1 MW product while moving through procurement, fabrication, assembly, installation, and test. This role owns the mechanical details and interfaces that make the compressor package reliable, serviceable, and repeatable. Level and scope We are hiring into this role at whichever of three levels best matches the scope, independence, and judgment demonstrated through the interview process. Apply once and we will place you. Engineer II. Independently manage defined mechanical projects or portions of the product, turning established requirements into released designs and supporting hardware through fabrication, assembly, and test. Engineer III. Own significant subsystems or design work packages, manage interfaces and ambiguity, and deliver outcomes with limited supervision. Senior Engineer I. Lead complex mechanical initiatives through ambiguity, mentor teammates, and influence cross-functional decisions from architecture and trade studies through validation and production readiness. If you are between levels or arrived at this expertise through an unusual route, apply anyway. What you will do Own mechanical integration of the compressor and high-speed rotating assembly into the 1 MW product. Develop and maintain compressor-package models, drawings, interface definitions, bills of material, and installation requirements. Coordinate bearings, seals, shafts, housings, motors, instrumentation, mounting, piping connections, alignment, guarding, and service access. Support compressor procurement, supplier reviews, fabrication, assembly, installation, commissioning, and testing. Diagnose mechanical and interface issues with the Turbomachinery Engineer, suppliers, technicians, test engineers, and external specialists. Create and close compressor-related ECOs, drawing revisions, deviations, and configuration-control records. Translate first-of-a-kind learning into manufacturable, reliable, and serviceable production designs. Lead or support tolerance analysis, rotor-package interface reviews, DFMEA, technical risk reduction, and supplier qualification. What success looks like in your first year In the first 90 days, understand the compressor architecture and interfaces and take ownership of a defined compressor-integration work package. By six months, resolve hardware or test issues and release the resulting drawings, interface updates, and ECOs. By twelve months, deliver a validated compressor-package improvement incorporated into the production-intent 1 MW design. What we need from you Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline, with experience appropriate to the level at which you are hired. Strong mechanical design fundamentals involving precision assemblies, fits and tolerances, materials, fasteners, load paths, thermal growth, vibration, and equipment integration. Experience taking complex mechanical hardware from requirements through release, fabrication, assembly, test, and troubleshooting. Experience with production-quality CAD, drawings, BOMs, interface-control documentation, and engineering changes. Ability to perform or review calculations for loads, alignment, deflection, thermal expansion, tolerance stack-up, and component sizing. Ability to work directly with suppliers, fabricators, technicians, and test teams to turn incomplete inputs into controlled engineering decisions. What would help Experience with compressors, pumps, turbomachinery, rotating equipment, bearings, seals, motors, or other high-speed mechanical equipment. Experience with compressor skids, pressure-boundary interfaces, lubrication systems, vibration instrumentation, alignment, or rotor-support hardware. Experience with SolidWorks and PDM-controlled release, large assemblies, GD&T, DFMEA, supplier qualification, or prototype builds. Experience with industrial heat pumps, refrigeration, steam systems, or packaged industrial equipment. Compensation and benefits Base salary range: Engineer II [$105,000
  • $150,000] Engineer III [$110,00
  • $165,000] Senior Engineer I [$125,000
  • 180,000] Where an offer lands within a range depends on experience, demonstrated capability, and interview performance.
