Job Title:
Mechanical Engineer Job Description This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on developing complete mechanical system design packages for gas turbine auxiliary mechanical equipment. You will collaborate closely with external vendors to fabricate specified equipment and ensure that all supplied equipment packages comply with applicable codes, contract requirements, and project schedules. The position supports major systems such as heat exchangers, fuel gas conditioning equipment, enclosures, ventilation systems, and associated structural and mechanical components used in gas and steam turbine applications. Responsibilities Develop detailed mechanical system design packages for gas turbine auxiliary mechanical equipment, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project requirements. Create and refine technical specifications for equipment, including performance, materials, codes, and standards. Perform sizing and selection of mechanical equipment, ensuring compatibility with system requirements and project constraints. Engineer and support major systems such as heat exchangers (including turbine air coolers, fuel gas heaters, and fuel gas dew point heaters), fuel gas conditioning equipment (filter/separators, scrubbers, filters), and enhanced cooling air equipment (compressors and drain mist separators). Design and support GT and auxiliary enclosures heating and ventilation systems to ensure safe and reliable equipment operation. Contribute to the design and integration of air intake filter houses, exhaust ducts, expansion joints, equipment enclosures, access platforms, and handrails. Work with outside vendors and skid manufacturers to communicate design requirements, review vendor documentation, and ensure fabricated equipment meets specifications, codes, and contractual obligations. Coordinate with internal multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, controls, and project management, to integrate mechanical systems into overall plant designs. Review and interpret technical procedures, standards, and governmental regulations to ensure designs meet all relevant compliance requirements. Prepare technical reports, specifications, and procedure manuals in English, clearly documenting design decisions and system configurations. Participate in project meetings and presentations, effectively conveying technical information and responding to questions from project stakeholders and customers. Support projects across North and South America by providing engineering input related to modular, skid, and packaged equipment designs. Use engineering software tools, including AutoCAD and HTRI, to support mechanical design, analysis, and equipment selection. Contribute to continuous improvement of design practices and standardization of packaged and modular equipment solutions. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required. Minimum of three (3) years of technical engineering experience. Proven experience writing detailed specifications for mechanical equipment. Hands-on experience in sizing and selecting mechanical equipment. Experience with at least one of the following: heat exchangers, pressure vessels, or rotating equipment such as pumps, fans, and compressors. Mechanical design experience related to oil and gas, gas turbines, steam turbines, or similar industrial applications. Proficiency with AutoCAD for mechanical design and drafting. Familiarity with equipment such as pumps, fans, compressors, lube oil systems, skids, air inlets, filters, snubbers, fire protection systems, and enclosures. Experience with HTRI or similar tools for heat exchanger design and evaluation. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, professional journals, and governmental regulations in English. Ability to write clear reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals in English. Ability to effectively present technical information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and other stakeholders. Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, Acrobat, Excel, and related tools. Knowledge of databases, project management tools, graphics, technical diagrams, and flow-chart creation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Master's degree in Engineering is a plus but not required. Experience with skid manufacturing, rotating equipment, and/or static equipment within an EPC environment is strongly preferred. Background with OEMs, skid manufacturing companies, or EPC firms is highly desirable. Experience in modular design and skid or packaged equipment manufacturing is particularly valued. Experience specifying rotating equipment and packaged equipment is beneficial. Power plant experience, including gas and steam turbine projects, is a plus. International business experience, including Japan-related or other global projects, is advantageous. Japanese, Spanish, or Portuguese language skills are beneficial but not mandatory. Work Environment The role is based in a North American headquarters for plant design and engineering, within a multidisciplinary office that includes mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, controls, and project management professionals. The environment emphasizes collaboration across disciplines to deliver complex power and energy projects. Team members typically work in a professional engineering office setting with access to standard office and engineering software tools. Depending on business needs and arrangements, candidates may work on-site in the engineering office or remotely from home, while remaining fully integrated with project teams through digital collaboration and communication platforms. The organization operates within the power generation and energy sector and supports projects across North and South America, offering long-term project visibility and the opportunity to work on large-scale gas and steam turbine systems and associated auxiliary equipment.
