Job Description

Mechanical Design EngineerPosition OverviewWe are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop, document, and support mechanical systems and components for building and industrial projects. The role focuses on HVAC system design, producing detailed drawings and models, performing design calculations, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver compliant, cost-effective, and constructible solutions.

Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop detailed mechanical designs and layouts for HVAC and related building systems using AutoCAD and Revit.

Produce and issue construction drawings, 3D models, and specifications that meet project requirements and industry standards.

Perform engineering calculations (load, sizing, flow, pressure drop, thermal) to support selection and specification of equipment and duct/piping systems.

Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs), equipment schedules, and parts lists; support procurement and cost estimation activities.

Coordinate designs with architects, electrical/plumbing engineers, contractors, and fabricators to ensure constructability and code compliance.

Review vendor drawings, select equipment, and evaluate alternative design solutions for performance and cost.

Support installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities in the field as required.

Ensure designs comply with relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, local building codes) and maintain thorough project documentation.

Drive continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned, updating standards, and optimizing designs for manufacturability and maintenance.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Preferred - 3+ years of mechanical design experience, preferably with HVAC systems in building or industrial projects.

Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit for producing 2D drawings and 3D models.

Hands-on experience designing HVAC systems, including load calculations, ductwork, piping, and equipment selection.

Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, and fabrication/manufacturing processes.

Familiarity with industry codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, local building codes) and experience ensuring regulatory compliance.

Experience creating detailed documentation: specifications, BOMs, schedules, and test reports.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills; ability to coordinate across disciplines and with external stakeholders.

Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility, and relevant certifications (e.g., LEED, PMP) are a plus.
