full-time We're hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer in Wood Dale, IL. Sterling Engineering is partnering with a longtime client of more than 25 years to hire a Mechanical Design Engineer for a direct hire opportunity. Our client is a stable, mid-sized manufacturer known for developing custom-engineered electrical products and investing in the growth of early career engineers. $68,000 to $75,000 annually
What You'll Do:
- Design new mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks
- Create detailed manufacturing drawings with GD&T and proper tolerancing
- Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Support prototype development, testing, and design validation
- Work directly with manufacturing to optimize designs for production
- Perform engineering calculations related to material selection, strength, and thermal performance
- Process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and maintain engineering documentation
- Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to improve existing product designs
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 0 to 3 years of engineering experience
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Previous engineering internship or co-op is required
- Strong SolidWorks design experience
- Understanding of GD&T, manufacturing drawings, and mechanical design principles
- Experience with machining, fabrication, or assembly processes is preferred
