Work Group:
Designs, develops, builds, and implements new cooling system components, products, or technologies. Responsibilities 3D design components/systems Organizing, coordinating, and executing the building, testing, and analysis of prototypes. Extensive customer communication and collaboration, developing a production ready product. Assisting supply specialists and buyers with supplier development and supplier performance. Overseeing the efforts of drafting and testing specialists. Developing and documenting functional requirements and translating into detail design documents. Participating in buy-build analysis for product components. Participating in and supporting proposal preparation, cost estimates, and technical reports.
Reason/motivation for request:
  • Backfill Typical task breakdown: The main function of a cooling design engineer is to apply the principles of mechanical engineering design, development, testing, and evaluation of the hardware and systems that make cooling systems work.
A typical design engineer analyzes customer cooling requirements, and then designs, tests, and develops hardware to meet those needs.
Job Responsibilities:
Create new or modify existing cooling components or systems based on customer/project requirements through extensive collaboration. Work as part of a project team to coordinate component/system development and determine project scope and limitations. Review project requests describing customer needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish project. High ability to work independently and manage one's time. Intermediate knowledge of a cooling component/system development lifecycle: from customer engagement, through requirements gathering and functional specification authoring, to design development, testing and product delivery. Intermediate ability to troubleshoot issues and make system changes as needed to resolve issues. Basic knowledge of thermodynamics, thermal simulation and structural analysis. High knowledge of Creo 3D modeling tools, Teamcenter processes and print creation/releasing.
  • Builds three-dimensional models with basic materials.
  • Communicates with cross-function engineering teams (internally and externally) to understand various requirements of product design.
  • Tests and evaluates alternative means of production being considered for use.
  • Uses automated tools to design or modify the design of a product.
  • Assists in building a complex prototype of product.
Interaction with team:
  • Daily team (internal and customer) interactions including, but not limited to, in-person and virtual meetings.

  • Office environment/cubical
Education & Experience Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or relevant field required.
  • 3-4 years' experience required. Technical Skills (Required)
  • Knowledge of cooling systems technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Generates specifications for parts or components with Creo CAD software.
  • Reuses design components via reusable libraries following standard procedures.
  • Uses Creo CAD to perform intermediate drafting such as wire frames, solid objects and array of objects, including but not limited to fabrications, castings and modular assemblies.
  • Performs routine changes to computerized schematics or drawings.
  • Creates views of objects in 2 and 3 dimensions; creates perspective drawings and orthogonal views.
  • Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) Soft Skills (Required)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills (Desired)
  • Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
