Job Description
Job Description Leads and sets direction for the design and development of mechanical systems including components, enclosures, and packaging, ensuring reliability, performance, and manufacturability. Contributes to the technical vision and sets best practices for the use of advanced computer aided design (CAD) tools, mentoring cross-functional teams in refining innovative mechanical solutions. Establishes best practices and frameworks for mechanical strength and reliability testing of materials and components, collaborating with operations and suppliers to drive cost-effective production. Defines protocols for and leads testing and reliability assessments, shaping design refinements and corrective action plans. Leads high impact mechanical engineering initiatives, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
Responsibilities Key Responsibilities Design and Development:
- Leads and sets direction for the architectural design and development of highly complex electronic parts, components, board layout and board planning, and mechanical systems, ensuring cutting-edge reliability, performance, and manufacturability.
- Establishes and drives long-term mechanical design strategies for next-generation server architectures, defining cooling methodologies and mechanical frameworks from concept to production.
- Contributes to the technical vision and sets best practices for the use of advanced computer-aided design (CAD) tools (e.g., ProE, SolidWorks), mentoring cross-functional teams in refining innovative mechanical solutions.
- Defines and oversees the mechanical design of electronics enclosures and embedded systems, ensuring alignment with overarching hardware strategies and system-level requirements.
Structural and Reliability Analysis:
- Establishes best practices and frameworks for mechanical reliability assessments and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) proactively addressing challenges.
- Advises cross-functional teams on the resolution of potential points of failure, root cause analysis, and corrective action.
Manufacturing and Production Support:
- Defines manufacturing and assembly strategies that enhance mechanical system quality, scalability, and efficiency, collaborating with Operations and external manufacturers to drive cost-effective production.
- Ensures seamless transitions from prototype to mass production, establishing rigorous quality control measures across suppliers and internal teams.
Product Testing and Quality Assurance:
- Defines and leads industry-leading reliability and qualification protocols for mechanical components and systems, ensuring optimal performance in data center and cloud environments.
- Drives the development of predictive analytics methodologies for early defect detection and risk mitigation using statistical modeling.
- Oversees and advises on the interpretation of complex test data, shaping design refinements and corrective action plans based on analytical insights.
Research and Innovation:
- Spearheads cutting-edge research into emerging materials, cooling technologies, and mechanical design innovations, influencing the evolution of data center infrastructure.
- Represents Oracle in technical forums, industry consortia, and research collaborations, driving advancements in mechanical engineering best practices.
- Develops and executes long-term innovation strategies that enhance product performance, energy efficiency, and sustainability.
Cross-functional Teams:
- Partners with electrical engineers, component engineers, operations teams, and other internal stakeholders to define and drive design optimizations that optimize product performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Builds and strengthens relationships with key suppliers to develop high-quality components and assemblies ensuring they meet performance and cost goals.
- Provides leadership in collaboration with manufacturing to transition designs to production.
Project Management:
- Leads high-impact mechanical engineering initiatives, setting technical roadmaps and aligning stakeholders on strategic development priorities.
- Advises leadership on mechanical design trends and emerging risks, providing expert insights to shape investment decisions.
- Mentors and guides senior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
Thermal Management:
- Sets technical direction for thermal management and design strategies using Computational
- Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools like FloTHERM or Icepak, ensuring optimal thermal management for electronic devices.
- Leads validation of airflow measurements, environmental testing, and thermal tests for products, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards (e.
Environmental Test Engineering:
- Defines and leads the global strategy for mechanical product designs, ensuring alignment with complex global regulatory and industry standards across multiple regions.
- Leads all environmental testing activities, ensuring comprehensive testing and certification processes are embedded in the product lifecycle, from concept to production.
- Leads cross-functional teams, providing expert guidance and influencing key decisions to
- ensure standards are embedded in all product development stages, while balancing business needs with regulatory constraints.

Hiring Range in USD from: $139,400 to $291,800 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral. Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle's differing products, industries and lines of business. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
