Job Description
Mechanical Design Engineer Job Description This role focuses on designing conveyor systems, automated equipment, and material handling solutions using SolidWorks. The Mechanical Design Engineer develops 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings while collaborating with electrical and automation teams to integrate mechanical and control systems. The position emphasizes design optimization, manufacturability, performance, and compliance with customer and industry requirements within a growing automation-focused environment. Responsibilities Design conveyor systems, automated machinery, and material handling equipment using SolidWorks. Create 3D models, assemblies, technical drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation. Collaborate with electrical, controls, and automation teams to integrate motors, drives, robotics, and control systems. Perform mechanical analysis and apply design-for-manufacturability (DFM) principles to improve performance, cost, and reliability. Develop designs incorporating gears, motors, bearings, drives, and pneumatic components. Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations, including CE and UL requirements. Provide technical support through design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting. Participate in design reviews, continuous improvement initiatives, and multiple concurrent projects. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field. 3+ years of mechanical design experience in conveyor systems, automation, or material handling equipment. Strong SolidWorks proficiency in 3D modeling, assembly design, and drafting. Knowledge of mechanical systems, GD&T, BOM creation, DFM, and automation components. Experience with SolidWorks Simulation or other CAE tools. Understanding of industry safety standards and automated machinery requirements. Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of West Dundee, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $74.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
