$100,000 to $120,000 per year Job Summary We have an immediate opening for a full-time mechanical engineer/mechanical engineering coordinator at our Merrillville, IN regional office. Candidates should have a minimum of a BS in Mechanical Engineering; a registered Professional Engineer is preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience in heavy industrial facilities, particularly in primary steel and aluminum production. Responsibilities Design systems and components that meet client needs and requirements. Identify, formulate, and produce effective solutions to emerging problems. Evaluate the final product's overall performance, reliability, and safety. Alter and modify designs to meet requirements and eliminate malfunctions. Ensure products comply with client and governmental regulations. Collaborate with project managers and other engineers on our team and with clients. Create plans and designs using CAD technology. Prepare product reports, scopes of work, and other technical documentation. Estimate budgets and time scopes for each project. Manage in-discipline projects from proposal to completion without assistance. Direct, lead, and manage a small design team, including responsibility for all hours worked and billed by the mechanical team. Ensure quality assurance of all mechanical engineering deliverables to the client. Qualifications Proven working experience in mechanical engineering. Solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, and materials science. 5-8 years of relevant experience in a heavy industrial setting. Familiarity with die cast machine layout, processes, and operations. Ability to analyze options and relevant test data/results. Highly analytical mind, with exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Knowledge of the latest Mechanical Engineering codes - ASME, AWS, and NFPA. Ability to clearly document observations and existing field conditions. Proficiency in oral and written communication to share technical knowledge clearly and concisely. Creativity and analytical skills. Extensive piping process experience is a plus. Ability to size pipes according to flow based on contents and applicable industry standards. Working knowledge of hydraulic piping systems including control valves, pumps, and filtration. Ability to read and produce schematic drawings from scratch using correct symbology. Hydraulic troubleshooting abilities. Working knowledge of pipe stress analysis software such as Caesar or similar is preferred. Superior computer skills, with solid experience in AutoCAD. Ability to perform engineering quality checks on drawings produced by the department. Ability to produce fabrication level detail drawings. Working knowledge of welding procedures, techniques, and symbols. Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Ability to interact with a variety of people at all levels from floor-level clients and contractors up to facility owners. Must always exude professionalism when interacting with clientele. Must be self-motivated and responsible. No adverse driver's license restrictions of any kind. Clean driving record required to enter client facilities. Ability to walk for an entire shift on uneven terrain around client facilities for inspections, meetings, or other work. Ability to lift 40 lbs unassisted. Ability to travel overnight if needed.
