Student Research Engineer Ceela Naturals Louisville, KY Job Details Part-time $18 - $22 an hour 9 hours ago Qualifications CAD Mechanical Engineering 3D printing Data collection Electrical Engineering Full Job Description Student Research EngineerBiomedical Engineering, Prototyping, and Experimental Development We are seeking an engineering student interested in meaningful paid work on active biomedical research and product-development projects. This is not intended to be a conventional internship. The position involves real engineering problems, hands-on prototyping, experimental design, measurement, troubleshooting, data collection, and technical documentation. Projects may involve biomedical devices, LED and optical systems, power supplies and current control, thermal management, sensors, mechanical fixtures, fluid-delivery systems, CAD, 3D-printed components, experimental instrumentation, and prototype testing. Some projects will work. Others will fail and require redesign. Understanding why something failed is part of the work. A major objective of this position is to give students an opportunity to participate in research that may lead to scientific publications, conference presentations, technical reports, patents, or other permanent professional work. Students who make substantive intellectual or experimental contributions will be considered for authorship according to normal scientific standards. The goal is for a student to leave with more than a résumé line saying "internship." Ideally, the student will someday be able to say: I helped build that. I performed those experiments. My work contributed to that publication or invention. Students in Biomedical, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Computer Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, and related fields are encouraged to apply. We value curiosity and reliability more than prior research experience.
The right student will:
Enjoy building and testing things Ask why results occur Work carefully and document what was actually done Use quantitative reasoning Be comfortable learning unfamiliar subjects Recognize unexpected results as useful information Move easily between theory and hands-on work Be willing to say, "I don't know, but I can find out" This is a small R D environment where students may work directly with physicians, scientists, engineers, manufacturing personnel, and inventors. Good ideas are welcome regardless of who proposes them. The position is paid and can be structured around university coursework. Compensation will depend upon experience, technical ability, and responsibility. A successful student may gain hands-on engineering experience, research experience, prototype-development skills, professional references, portfolio material, exposure to patents, and the possibility of scientific authorship. We are particularly interested in the student who stays bothered by a measurement that does not make sense and enjoys figuring out why.
Pay:
$18.00 - $22.00 per hour Expected hours: 10.0 - 15.0 per week
