Job Description
Job Summary A global life sciences organization is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support manufacturing and crop protection operations through the design, execution, and delivery of complex mechanical engineering projects. This role is a key contributor at the plant level, responsible for both project management and hands-on mechanical engineering work to improve processes and support sustainable agriculture initiatives. The position requires extensive experience applying advanced engineering principles while coordinating cross-disciplinary efforts to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget. Responsibilities Serve as project manager and lead mechanical engineer for assigned manufacturing and capital projects. Apply site and corporate design, drafting, and engineering standards throughout all project phases. Utilize gated project systems and documentation requirements, including early feasibility through detailed scope definition. Develop preliminary project descriptions, schedules, and cost estimates upon assignment. Perform mechanical engineering activities including stress analysis, calculations, equipment specifications, material take-offs, and piping estimates. Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to evaluate feasibility and cost effectiveness of proposed solutions. Produce preliminary and detailed designs, calculations, and sketches for materials of construction. Develop formal project scopes and capital request documentation. Review and check vendor and multi-discipline drawings, calculations, and specifications for accuracy and compliance with codes, standards, and good engineering practice. Apply in-depth knowledge of rotating and static equipment, piping systems, piping flexibility and stress analysis, and piping supports. Identify requirements for safety devices and phase separation equipment. Ensure designs optimize constructability, material efficiency, safety, and project objectives. Estimate and manage professional service hours and monitor progress and quality of mechanical work. Support procurement activities by assembling scopes, drawings, and specifications for equipment and construction packages. Perform fieldwork to collect data, verify tie-ins, and provide construction support. Support project approval, procurement, budget forecasting, commissioning, startup, and project closure activities. Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to less experienced engineers and drafting personnel. Support quality assurance and quality control activities throughout the project lifecycle. Recognize and communicate scope or design changes promptly and coordinate with other engineering disciplines to maintain project schedules. Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited, ABET-certified institution. 5+ years of relevant industrial mechanical engineering experience. Strong project management and multitasking capabilities. Solid verbal, written, and computer skills, including proficiency with standard office software tools. Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to influence in a matrixed or non-traditional environment. Strong commitment to safety, quality, and ethical engineering practices. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams. Excellent presentation and virtual collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications Professional Engineering (PE) registration.
