Job Title:
Mechanical Engineer Job Description This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on sustaining engineering and new product development for complex mechanical and electro‑mechanical systems. You will create and maintain detailed 2D drawings and 3D models in SolidWorks, support design improvements for capital and process equipment, and collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams to resolve design issues. The position combines hands‑on design, documentation, and troubleshooting responsibilities in support of equipment used in the biotech industry. Responsibilities Support sustaining engineering activities, including creating redlines, processing engineering change orders (ECOs), and updating detailed drawings. Create, update, and maintain accurate 2D drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks. Support design improvements for mechanical assemblies, mechanisms, and electro‑mechanical systems to enhance performance, reliability, and manufacturability. Assist with tolerance analysis, apply GD&T principles, and perform basic engineering calculations to ensure robust designs. Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and other engineering disciplines to identify, analyze, and resolve design issues. Support new product development initiatives and design changes for capital equipment and process equipment. Troubleshoot and debug mechanical and electro‑mechanical issues during build, test, and deployment phases. Participate in design reviews, present design concepts, and incorporate feedback into revised designs. Support documentation activities, including bill of materials (BOM) updates and design data management within SolidWorks PDM. Manage assigned tasks effectively to meet project schedules, milestones, and deliverables. Apply principles of design for manufacturability (DFM) and other engineering analysis tools, as appropriate, to improve product quality and efficiency. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience. 1-3+ years of experience in a mechanical engineering or new product development environment. Hands‑on experience using SolidWorks CAD for 2D drawings and 3D modeling. Experience supporting capital equipment, process equipment, or automation systems. Understanding of basic tolerance analysis and GD&T fundamentals. Familiarity with engineering analysis tools such as FEA or design for excellence (DFX) principles. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently with minimal supervision. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Solid foundation in mechanical design principles for assemblies and mechanisms. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with SolidWorks PDM for design data and document management. Exposure to robotics or automated systems in a development or sustaining role. Experience supporting sustaining engineering in regulated or manufacturing environments. Familiarity with manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability (DFM) principles. Experience working on electro‑mechanical systems that integrate mechanical and electrical components. Background in BOM creation and maintenance for complex assemblies. Experience applying design for automation concepts and working with automation equipment. Work Environment This role is based in an office setting, working primarily with SolidWorks and related engineering tools on capital and process equipment used in the biotech industry. You will collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams such as manufacturing and quality while managing your own tasks and priorities. The environment values good management, clear communication, and a structured approach to sustaining engineering and new product development. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Franklin, MA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $105000.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
