Job Description

Mechanical Engineer Overview We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support both sustaining engineering and new product development for complex mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. This role blends hands-on design, CAD modeling, and cross-functional collaboration to improve and maintain capital and process equipment used in the biotech industry. You will play a key role in driving design improvements, resolving technical issues, and ensuring high-quality engineering documentation. Key Responsibilities Support sustaining engineering efforts, including redlines, engineering change orders (ECOs), and drawing updates Design and maintain detailed 2D drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks Improve mechanical and electro-mechanical designs to enhance performance, reliability, and manufacturability Perform tolerance analysis, apply GD&T principles, and complete basic engineering calculations Partner with manufacturing, quality, and cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve design issues Contribute to new product development and modifications for capital and process equipment Troubleshoot and debug systems during build, testing, and deployment phases Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback into iterative improvements Maintain BOMs and manage design data within SolidWorks PDM Ensure projects stay on track by managing timelines, priorities, and deliverables Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and DFX principles to improve product quality Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) or equivalent experience 1-3+ years of experience in mechanical design, sustaining engineering, or product development Proficiency in SolidWorks (2D drawings and 3D modeling) Experience with capital equipment, process equipment, or automation systems Understanding of GD&T and tolerance analysis fundamentals Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple priorities Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) Solid foundation in mechanical design of assemblies and mechanisms Preferred Qualifications Experience with SolidWorks PDM Exposure to robotics or automation systems Background in regulated or manufacturing environments Knowledge of manufacturing processes and DFM principles Experience with electro-mechanical systems integration BOM creation and management experience Familiarity with FEA or other engineering analysis tools Work Environment This is an office-based role focused on engineering design and development using SolidWorks and related tools. You will collaborate closely with manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams in a structured and team-oriented environment supporting biotech equipment development. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Franklin, MA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $105000.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
