Responsibilities for this Position Responsibilities for this Position General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) is Seeking a talented and motivated Component Engineer Support Specialist to join our team based in Scottsdale, AZ. In this role, you will apply your knowledge and experience about electrical/electronic components, mechanical hardware as well as chemical based materials such as paints, solvents, adhesives, and thermal filling agents used in the space flight, military defense and mission-critical systems. Candidate will need to be an independent self-starter with an attention to detail and possess strong communications skills as well as the ability to concurrently manage multiple tasks and problems centered around parts and material issues. This position requires the processing of New Part Requests (NPRs) to create new manufacturing parts with the Windchill ePDM framework or to update/correct existing parts in that database that do not conform to the component engineering standards. This position will require the candidate to learn to analyze data sheets, military and other industry specifications and drawings to determine if configuration control is demonstrated as well as determine who is controlling the configuration. Key Responsibilities Process New Part Requests (NPRs) utilizing the GDMS ePDM configuration management database. Understand the different part types and general knowledge of electrical/electronic parts, mechanical hardware, and chemical based materials, such as paints, solvents, adhesives, and thermal filling agents, their function and the manufacturing base that produces them. Understand the difference between a basic model number and an orderable part number that defines the full configuration of the basic model. Understand how the manufacturer applies configuration control to their products. Understand how the manufacturer defines packaging for the product (tube, tray, reel) and how the part number is used to show this. Determine the most important parameters for each part type as extracted from datasheets, manufacturer web sites, and military/industry specifications to write accurate and useful part descriptions consistent with the formats outlined in Appendix A of the Component Engineering guidelines. Determine whether a part number is controlled by a Military, National Aerospace, NEMA, or other government/industry specification or if it is a manufacturers commercial part number. Utilize Silicon Expert, IHS Haystack, or similar component intelligence tools for lifecycle and availability analysis. Work with understanding and processing GIDEPs to determine if electronic parts and mechanical hardware are impacted. Candidate shall be detail oriented, and exhibit strong organizational, people, and task management skills for the coordination and execution of many concurrent small and large tasks on a scheduled basis. Understand the processes and principles outlined in the Component Engineering documents in the Common Process Framework. Required Qualifications Preferred bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related STEM field OR equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience. 2+ years of experience in Component Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Electronic Parts Management, or a closely related field. Demonstrated knowledge of electrical and mechanical hardware as well as chemical products. Experience reading, and interpreting, and manufacturer datasheets and technical documentation. Experience working with supply chain and manufacturers on End-of-Life (EOL) and obsolescence management. Demonstrate proficiency with MS Office Suite applications (particularly Microsoft Excel) and Product Data Management (PDM) applications (e.g., GDMS EPDM-Windchill, CIMA, or similar). U.S. Citizenship required. Independent, self-starter work ethic with strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact across multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
