Job Title:
Mechanical Engineer Job Description This role involves developing mechanical and physical concepts, designing, and supporting the development of processes to create or identify systems, structures, and components (SSCs) for use in nuclear products or facilities, with a focus on nuclear safety. Responsibilities Develop and refine mechanical/physical concepts and designs. Identify, collect, and document applicable requirements and design basis. Plan and perform analyses to assess SSCs to ensure they meet technical specifications. Perform computations using hand calculations and analytical tools. Specialize in areas such as Structural Design, Thermal Hydraulics, Thermosystems, and Mechanical Design. Perform structural analysis for reactor components using FEA simulation software and engineering judgment. Provide heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and particulate mechanics analysis. Develop, test, and verify CFD models for reactor licensing basis. Conduct system-level thermodynamic analyses and process design. Support sizing and analysis of components like heat exchangers and pumps. Develop reactor and plant control philosophy and implement in simulations. Create and maintain CAD-generated engineering models of reactor SSCs. Write and develop design documentation. Develop Verification and Validation plans for analytical tools. Provide independent and acceptance reviews of engineering deliverables. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution. Proficiency with engineering hand calculations. Experience in thermodynamics, mechanical design, or structural analysis. Use of 1D flow-solvers and CFD analysis codes. Hands-on experience in developing and delivering hardware or manufacturing processes. Experience with CAD and PLM software. Analytical experience with structural FEA software. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Greenbelt, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $80.00/hr.
