Job Title:
Process Design Engineer - Wet Chemistry Job Description This role is responsible for overseeing the design and implementation of wet chemistry processes and associated equipment. The position requires managing the performance and execution of third-party vendors, while translating process requirements and specifications into clear concepts, technical directions, and recommended approaches for implementation. Responsibilities Contribute to the design of wet chemistry processes including acid deficient urinal nitrate, gelation, solvent recovery, liquid chemical processing, transportation, evaporation, filtration, storage, and mixing. Develop and lead the implementation of advanced manufacturing processes to meet production goals and quality standards. Develop specifications for process equipment and work with equipment suppliers to ensure critical design characteristics are met for equipment delivery. Collaborate with subcontractors and suppliers to design, construct, deliver, and install process equipment. Conduct research to develop new and improved processes for manufacturing, and evaluate and implement new equipment and technologies to improve process efficiency and product quality. Develop methods and procedures to process and handle chemicals and materials in a safe and efficient manner. Design and plan equipment layout for new processes, products, or customers. Work with R D teams to translate lab-scale processes to pilot and production scale processes. Collaborate with regulatory teams to establish safety procedures for dangerous chemicals, processes, or equipment, and ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations. Provide support for waste permitting and conduct tests to monitor process performance throughout production. Troubleshoot problems associated with manufacturing processes and monitor variances from process controls, providing recommendations and solutions to reduce or eliminate variances. Maintain a master list of all equipment, chemical inputs, outputs, and waste streams. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex process-related issues. Mentor and train junior process engineers. Perform other duties as assigned. Essential Skills Proficiency in chemistry and engineering. Specific knowledge of chemical processes related to liquids. Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, nuclear engineering, material science, mechanical engineering, or a related field. 5 to 15 years of relevant work experience, depending on level; advanced degrees may substitute some years of experience. CAD and P&ID experience. Experience with industrial equipment design, procurement, installation, and operation. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products. Additional Skills & Qualifications General understanding of the nuclear fuel cycle. Knowledge and experience with powder processing, graphite powder, extrusion, ceramics, chemical processing, industrial waste processing, and liquids processing. Ability to work in a team to produce desired outputs within short turnaround times. Willingness to work with hazardous materials such as low enriched uranium, nitric acid, and phenolic resin. Work Environment This position is based in an on-site office environment. The role involves working with advanced technologies and handling hazardous materials under strict safety protocols. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Greenbelt, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $80.00/hr.
