HOLLYWOOD, MD Job Summary:
Mechanical Engineer III performs research, prototype development, and integration of various mechanical design enhancements for the aircraft, payloads, and aircraft support equipment. Additionally, the Mechanical Engineer will perform preliminary and detailed level stress analysis of flight structures and ground base equipment.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Confer with engineers, customers, and leadership to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products. Design, implement, maintain, and improve structural installations, equipment, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and military purposes. Operate computer-assisted engineering design software to perform engineering tasks. Direct and coordinate manufacturing, assembly, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications and customer requirements. Plan the installation of aircraft assemblies for structural and non-structural components. Maintain an intermediate working level knowledge of the practices associated with government guidelines for aircraft structural installations. Maintain an intermediate working level knowledge of the practices associated with FAA guidelines for aircraft structural installations. Prepare project cost and schedule estimates. Assist in the development of ground support equipment for aircraft project support. Responsible for structural analysis of new or existing designs to ensure safety margin compliance. Provide assistance and guidance to the drafting department as needed. Provide field support assistance for installation/removal and testing of projects. Provide oversight in monitoring and inspecting of manufacturing/fabrication components and assemblies to ensure compliance with the design. Perform Lead Project Engineer duties of oversight of junior engineers, task performance, scheduling, and testing for a project. Perform other duties as are necessary and/or required.
Basic Requirements:
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance. B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or B.S. in Math, Science, or other Engineering Field, 4+ years' relevant work experience, or a master's degree in a STEM discipline and 2 years of relevant experience. Must have experience with CAD programs. Must have experience with SolidWorks . Must have intermediate knowledge in the design and analysis of aircraft structures. Able to work through problem sets with little supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with SolidWorks surface modeling. Experience with SolidWorks large assemblies. Experience with drafting to the
ASME Y14.5
standard.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Ability to lift 25 pounds of equipment. Ability to traverse the manufacturing facility.
