Job Title:
Mechanical Designer Job Description This position involves designing very large mechanical equipment used to transport, shape, and heat treat steel. The focus will be primarily on design, with minimal engineering work, as that will be handled by the engineering team. You will work with two main products: Levelers, which flatten or shape materials into finished products, and Conveyors, which transport different materials through Chain Conveyors. The role requires proficiency in Solidworks, as designs will be initially completed in AutoCAD before transitioning to Solidworks. Responsibilities Use Solidworks and AutoCAD to design 2D and 3D industrial equipment. Design machine layouts for steel machines, cassettes, and other machined parts. Collaborate and participate in engineering design meetings. Detail individual components for equipment. Select materials for heat treatment and structural steel fabrication. Perform reverse engineering and design changes on refurbishments (customer-supplied components). Prepare bills of materials for orders. Essential Skills 4+ years of experience with AutoCAD and/or Solidworks in 2D and 3D. Experience with industrial equipment related to steel components, welding, or fabrication. Ability to execute engineering change orders. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with larger components is an advantage. Work Environment Work hours are Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. The facility is located in a large space in Brighton, close to Highway 96. The work environment is cubicle-style and promotes frequent collaboration with the manufacturing team. The staff is friendly and encourages positive improvement. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Brighton, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $41.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
