Job Title:
Mechanical Engineer Job Description This Mechanical Engineer role supports product design, manufacturing, and continuous improvement activities within a highly regulated aerospace environment. You will use 3D CAD tools to develop and maintain drawings, bills of materials, and supporting documentation while applying core engineering principles to solve technical challenges. Working closely with production and cross-functional teams, you will help improve efficiency, quality, and overall performance, provide day-to-day technical support, and contribute to process improvements using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies. Responsibilities Develop, update, and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for aerospace components and assemblies. Create, manage, and revise bills of materials (BOMs) and product documentation to support manufacturing and configuration control. Apply core mechanical engineering principles to analyze problems, propose solutions, and support technical decision-making. Collaborate with production, purchasing, and other cross-functional teams to support day-to-day manufacturing activities. Provide on-the-floor engineering support to resolve production issues and ensure smooth product flow. Interpret and review engineering drawings to ensure clarity, manufacturability, and compliance with applicable standards. Support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement tools. Contribute to process optimization efforts to enhance efficiency, quality, and overall performance in a high-standard manufacturing environment. Participate in customer interactions as needed to clarify technical requirements and support project objectives. Assist with documentation and reporting related to engineering changes, process improvements, and product updates. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Engineering. 2+ years of engineering experience, which can include internships. 3D CAD experience on any platform. Strong understanding of basic engineering principles and structured problem-solving. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement tools. Ability to create and interpret 2D engineering drawings. Experience working with bills of materials (BOMs), drawings, and product documentation. Ability to work effectively in an aerospace or other regulated manufacturing environment. Comfort working in a production support setting and collaborating closely with shop floor and purchasing teams. Strong communication skills for effective collaboration and customer interaction. Additional Skills & Qualifications Preferred experience with Creo for 3D CAD modeling and drafting. Prior aerospace or defense industry experience. Exposure to regulated manufacturing processes and standards. Experience supporting production environments, including time spent on the shop floor. Customer interaction experience, such as clarifying requirements or supporting technical discussions. Demonstrated interest in continuous improvement and process optimization. Work Environment This role is fully onsite and involves a mix of time spent on the manufacturing floor and in an office setting. You will work in a high-standard aerospace manufacturing environment, collaborating closely with multiple engineering groups, production personnel, and support functions. The setting combines hands-on exposure to production processes with office-based design, documentation, and analysis work, providing a strong opportunity to gain broad experience in regulated, defense-related projects. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cadillac, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $38.00/hr.
