Job Title:
Test Engineer Job Description This Test Engineer role focuses on planning, executing, and analyzing engine and transmission tests using dynamometer systems and engine test cells. You will set up and operate engine test benches, collect and interpret detailed performance and emissions data, and support calibration and tuning activities to optimize engine performance. The position requires strong technical expertise in internal combustion engines, combustion theory, and data analysis to deliver accurate test results and clear performance insights. Responsibilities Set up and operate engine test benches and dynamometer (dyno) systems for engine and transmission testing. Prepare and configure engine test cells, including instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and safety checks. Perform engine testing using dyno systems, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient test execution. Collect, process, and validate engine test data from data acquisition and analysis tools. Analyze test results using tools such as ASTi Vision and other data acquisition systems to evaluate engine performance. Conduct engine performance evaluations, including power, torque, efficiency, and emissions measurements. Perform carbon balance calculations to support fuel efficiency and emissions analysis. Apply combustion fundamentals and internal combustion engine operating principles to interpret test outcomes. Generate clear, accurate test reports that summarize methods, results, and performance insights. Present findings and performance insights using reporting tools and presentation software for project tracking and communication. Assist calibration teams in optimizing engine performance based on test data and analysis. Support engine and transmission tuning activities derived from test results and performance evaluations. Troubleshoot engine, test cell, and test-related issues to ensure continuity and quality of testing. Maintain organized documentation of test plans, procedures, configurations, and results. Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to refine test methods and improve test efficiency and accuracy. Essential Skills At least 4+ years of demonstrated automotive experience with a detail-oriented focus in engine and transmission testing support. Hands-on experience in dynamometer (dyno) operation, including setup, control, and monitoring during engine tests. Practical experience in engine test cell setup and execution, including instrumentation and data acquisition configuration. Strong understanding of internal combustion (IC) engine working principles. Solid knowledge of combustion theory and its application to engine performance and emissions. Experience performing carbon balance and emissions calculations for engine testing. Strong understanding of engine performance metrics such as power, torque, efficiency, and emissions. Proficiency with data acquisition and analysis tools used in engine and dyno testing. Experience using ASTi Vision or similar tools for test monitoring and data analysis (ASTi Vision preferred). Strong problem-solving and analytical skills applied to test data, engine behavior, and system issues. Ability to generate clear, structured test reports and performance summaries. Proficiency with presentation and reporting tools to support project tracking and communication. Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience supporting both engine and transmission testing within automotive applications. Familiarity with test engineering practices and methodologies in an engine test cell environment. Ability to collaborate effectively with calibration and tuning teams to translate test findings into actionable improvements. Attention to detail in test setup, execution, data validation, and documentation. Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting results and presenting findings to engineering teams. Capability to manage multiple test activities and prioritize tasks in a structured manner. Work Environment You will work primarily in an engine test cell environment equipped with dynamometer (dyno) systems, engine test benches, and advanced instrumentation. The role involves frequent interaction with data acquisition and analysis tools, including software such as ASTi Vision and other test monitoring platforms. Work typically combines hands-on test setup and operation in the test cell with office-based analysis, report preparation, and collaboration with engineering and calibration teams. The environment emphasizes safe test execution, adherence to established procedures, and careful handling of engines, fuels, and test equipment.
