Full-Time About Us Quality Machine & Automation, established in 1997, is an Employee-Owned company specializing in the design and manufacture of custom automated equipment and specialty machinery. Every machine we build is unique—engineered and manufactured to solve complex challenges for customers across manufacturing, R&D, and a wide range of industries. As an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) company, our employees have a stake in the success of the business and a voice in our future. We take pride in our craftsmanship, innovation, and collaborative approach to solving engineering challenges. If you enjoy variety, creative problem-solving, and seeing your designs come to life, this is the place for you. Position Overview We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer who is passionate about designing innovative mechanical systems, solving real-world engineering challenges, and taking ownership of projects from initial concept through a complete, manufacturing-ready design package. In this role, you'll work closely with a cross-functional team of mechanical engineers, controls engineers, machine builders, and manufacturing personnel throughout the design and build process. We value engineers who combine strong technical fundamentals with practical, hands-on problem-solving skills and an understanding of how their designs translate to the shop floor. Key Responsibilities Design innovative mechanical systems, custom automation equipment, and specialty machinery using SolidWorks. Develop detailed 3D part models, assemblies, and accurate manufacturing drawings. Perform engineering calculations and analysis, including stress, motion, force requirements, and tolerance stack-ups. Research and select mechanical components, including bearings, actuators, motors, pneumatic systems, and other machine components, considering functionality, reliability, and cost. Collaborate with controls engineers, fabricators, machinists, and machine builders throughout the design and manufacturing process. Take ownership of mechanical designs from concept development through final design release, supporting machine assembly and commissioning as needed. Provide engineering support during machine assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and customer installation when necessary. Produce clear, accurate, and complete documentation to support manufacturing, assembly, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Balance innovation, simplicity, manufacturability, and reliability to develop practical, cost-effective machine designs. What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field. 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably involving custom machinery, automation, or industrial equipment. Strong 3D CAD proficiency (SolidWorks preferred) and a solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles. Ability to develop designs with consideration for manufacturing processes, assembly requirements, and serviceability. Strong mechanical aptitude and a hands-on approach to engineering and problem-solving. Comfortable working in a collaborative, small-team, build-to-order environment. Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize responsibilities, and balance multiple projects. Strong communication skills and willingness to work directly with machine builders and other engineering disciplines. Preferred Qualifications Experience designing industrial automation systems, custom machinery, or special-purpose equipment. Familiarity with mechanical motion systems, pneumatics, actuators, and machine safety. Experience working with fabrication, welding, machining, and mechanical assembly processes. Exposure to industrial robotics, vision systems, and controls integration. Understanding of industrial machine safety standards and design best practices. Experience supporting equipment assembly, debugging, and commissioning. Why Join Us? Competitive salary and benefits - Compensation that reflects your skills, experience, and contributions.
