Senior Tooling (Injection Mold) Engineer Caliberr Staffing Troy, MI Job Details Full-time $47.50 - $71.50 an hour 17 hours ago Qualifications Bachelor's degree Full Job Description We are looking for a Senior Tooling Engineer (Injection Molds) based in Troy, Michigan. This is a hybrid, contract-based role offering a pay rate between $50.00 and $65.00 per hour, determined by your professional background. Please note that this position requires significant travel, estimated at 35-40% of your time. Core Responsibilities Contribute expertise to the sourcing, development, and implementation of new tooling and equipment for both upcoming and existing projects. Collaborate with tool-room staff and external partners to troubleshoot challenges related to production, mold testing, and new program launches. Manage the estimation, scheduling, and execution of all engineering modifications and cost-reduction initiatives. Align tooling changes with internal departments like Manufacturing, Quality, and Finance to ensure project timelines and client delivery goals are met. Provide essential technical guidance for product design and development efforts. Leverage advanced technology to ensure current processes and tools consistently exceed client performance standards. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging trends and innovations within the tooling industry. Technical Expectations Partner with OEM and design teams to ensure product designs are optimized for manufacturing feasibility and robust injection molding processes. Oversee the full lifecycle of injection mold projects, including design, construction, budgeting, and scheduling for new launches. Provide expert leadership to project teams to ensure all client requirements are fulfilled. Direct supplier activities regarding mold construction to ensure all corporate quality, cost, and timing targets are achieved. Drive the preproduction sampling and approval process to guarantee that quoted cycle times and OEE metrics are met. Engage in financial negotiations regarding tooling and engineering change expenses. Support the startup of preproduction machinery at manufacturing facilities during the PPAP phase. Deliver technical troubleshooting support to manufacturing plants to help the team reach quality standards and profitability goals. Improve manufacturing productivity and quality by implementing superior materials, methods, and facility enhancements. Travel and Physical Requirements Maintain the flexibility to work on-site at various corporate and supplier locations as needed. Expect to spend approximately 20-30% of your schedule traveling to fulfill the requirements of the role. Qualifications and Skills Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred. Possess 5-8 years of experience in injection mold design, construction, or build oversight specifically for automotive interior trim components like door panels, instrument panels, or floor consoles. Demonstrate a proven track record with previous interior trim program launches. Showcase exceptional project and time management capabilities. Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously. Demonstrate the ability to quickly identify and resolve potential risks to program success. Utilize strong negotiation skills when establishing tool costs with suppliers and OEM analysts. Maintain the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, particularly while traveling. Function effectively as a collaborative member of a launch team while maintaining personal accountability across all levels of the organization.
