This role is responsible for leading component development throughout the full product lifecycle, from requirements definition and design execution to testing, validation, and production release.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with interior trim systems, product development processes, CAD design, release management, and cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities Lead the design, development, integration, and release of interior hard trim and overhead system components. Define product requirements and ensure successful execution throughout the development lifecycle. Coordinate testing, validation, and design verification activities. Manage engineering releases, change control, configuration management, and effectivity through established product development processes. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, design, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, and suppliers. Drive issue resolution related to fit, finish, ergonomics, manufacturability, and quality. Support continuous improvement initiatives through lessons learned and structured problem-solving methodologies. Balance technical requirements with business objectives including cost, mass, complexity, timing, and quality. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. Required Technical SkillsInterior CAD & Product Development NX CAD proficiency 3D and 2D design fundamentals Interface development for interior hard trim, overhead systems, pillars, and related components Release & Change Control Engineering release processes eBOM management Drawing and part release Configuration management and effectivity control Dimensional Engineering & Problem Solving GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) Tolerance stack-up analysis Manufacturing feasibility assessments Root cause analysis and structured problem solving Preferred Qualifications Previous Design Release Engineer (DRE) experience.
Experience with:
DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) GD&T application and interpretation Familiarity with structured problem-solving methodologies, including: Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) Green Belt certification or higher Red X methodology Success ProfileCandidates who thrive in this role typically demonstrate: Proactive problem-solving and issue identification. Strong systems thinking with the ability to balance ergonomics, safety, packaging, quality, and design intent. Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to product quality. High ownership and accountability. Effective collaboration across engineering teams, manufacturing plants, suppliers, and design organizations. A passion for continuous learning and sharing knowledge with others. 3+ years of experience developing and launching injection molded and/or compression molded interior components. Experience working within cross-functional product development environments. Strong understanding of engineering release and change management processes. Ability to effectively navigate ambiguity and changing priorities while delivering results.
