About the TeamThe Emissions and OBD Validation (EMOV) team is part of the Electrified Propulsion division of HATCI. We advance propulsion efficiency and performance across Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis internal combustion and hybrid powertrains, directly shaping the refinement, competitiveness, and technological leadership of the vehicles our customers drive every day. EMOV leads local market testing and validation of engine and electrified propulsion management systems controlling vehicle emissions and diagnostics. Position OverviewWe are seeking an innovative, analytically-minded, and self-driven OBD Fleet Durability Analytics Engineer to join our team in Superior Township, Michigan. In this role, you will drive data-driven decision making for the validation of engine management and on-board diagnostics systems for pre-production vehicles undergoing extensive mileage accumulation and emissions durability testing. You will analyze CAN/XCP parameters collected from our instrumented fleet vehicles to identify failure modes, detect early indicators of component degradation, and validate the robustness of OBD calibrations and engine management calibrations.

This position offers the opportunity to work with data-intensive development programs, advanced calibration technologies, and cross-functional engineering teams. You will help shape the next generation of internal combustion, hybrid, and electrified propulsion systems through rigorous data analysis, predictive analytics, and data-driven insights that directly inform calibration refinement and vehicle durability validation.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Key ResponsibilitiesLead data analytics activities for engine management and OBD systems using second-by-second vehicle data collected from long-term fleet testingDevelop and execute statistical analysis plans to extract trends, detect anomalies, and identify correlations between operating conditions and system performance degradationPerform predictive analytics modeling to forecast potential failures and validate the effectiveness of OBD diagnostic monitors during extended durability testingSet up instrumentation and monitor fleet vehicles to ensure accurate data acquisition from data loggers (XCP/CAN), reliable test execution, and data integrityAnalyze multivariate time-series data using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools to perform root cause analysis on high-occurrence issues and calibration weaknessesConduct data-driven investigations using statistical hypothesis testing and cross-functional collaboration to evaluate diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and OBD monitor robustnessSupport fleet operation activities including calibration updates, software flashing, diagnostic evaluation, and instrumentation troubleshootingPrepare advanced technical visualizations and dashboards to communicate data findings, trends, and actionable recommendations to calibration engineers and engineering leadershipValidate aftertreatment durability and regulatory compliance through analysis of emissions testing data at defined mileage intervalsEvaluate emerging data analytics technologies that support enhanced OBD validation, predictive maintenance capabilities, and compliance with evolving emissions regulationsManage fleet data governance including database administration, parameter definition validation, signal quality assurance, and test data archivalPlan, coordinate, and track analytics project activities to ensure timely and high-quality execution aligned with program milestonesTravel up to 15% both domestically and internationally Core CompetenciesAdvanced proficiency in Python
