CAREER OPPORTUNITY
|
ST. CHARLES, MISSOURI
Senior Mechanical Engineer, PE Full-Time | On-Site | Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Central Time The Opportunity DOTec is seeking a full-time Senior Mechanical Engineer, PE to lead mechanical building-system design and coordinated MEP delivery. This role combines hands-on engineering, responsible technical oversight, multidisciplinary MEP team leadership, quality control, mentoring, and collaboration with project managers, clients, contractors, and executive leadership. The position is suited to a practical senior engineer who can advance projects from initial criteria through construction, organize mechanical, electrical, and plumbing teams, and make sound decisions while preserving public safety, code compliance, energy performance, constructability, maintainability, and quality. This position integrates MEP work while discipline-specific responsible charge and sealing remain with properly qualified licensed professionals. Project managers retain scope, schedule, budget, client, and administrative controls. About DOTec DOTec Professional Corporation is a multidisciplinary engineering and architectural firm headquartered in St. Charles, Missouri. Approximately 50 domestic employees and an extended network of approximately 70 contract professionals across five countries provide structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil, and architectural services across a diverse project portfolio. We are intentionally multicultural and value the perspectives and strengths our team members bring to the work. Founder, owner, and CEO Dr. Ildefonso Gonzalez promotes personal achievement, continuous improvement, advanced education, professional licensure, and advancement from within. Approved licensure and credential-development expenses may qualify for reasonable reimbursement under Company policy. What You Will Do Lead mechanical building-system design, including loads, system selection, ventilation, heating and cooling, air distribution, hydronic and refrigerant piping, exhaust, central equipment, controls, and energy-efficiency measures. Lead or coordinate plumbing design within demonstrated competence, including domestic water, sanitary and storm drainage, natural gas, equipment, utility interfaces, and fire-protection coordination. Lead multidisciplinary MEP design teams of engineers, EITs, designers, and drafters; establish criteria, assignments, milestones, review points, priorities, and coordination expectations while providing practical mentoring and timely decisions. Perform or review heating and cooling loads, ventilation analyses, duct and piping calculations, pump and fan selections, psychrometrics, energy-code documentation, equipment schedules, and basis-of-design records. Review calculations, drawings, specifications, models, reports, and equipment selections for accuracy, code compliance, constructability, maintainability, commissioning readiness, and multidisciplinary coordination. Coordinate with project managers, clients, authorities having jurisdiction, utilities, vendors, contractors, and other design professionals; communicate technical risks, staffing needs, scope changes, and additional-services requirements early. Resolve permit comments, RFIs, submittals, field conditions, site-observation findings, and commissioning issues; improve MEP standards, details, checklists, and quality-control procedures. Assume responsible charge and seal documents only when legally authorized and personally directing and supervising the work. What Success Looks Like Mechanical and coordinated MEP deliverables are safe, code-aligned, energy-conscious, constructible, and issued through a predictable quality-control cadence. Criteria, calculations, decisions, risks, and review dispositions are documented, and project managers receive reliable technical and staffing forecasts. MEP teams work from clear milestones, while staff improve through direct mentoring, consistent standards, and accountable follow-through. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical-focused architectural engineering from an ABET-accredited or demonstrably equivalent program. Active PE license in good standing in a U.S. jurisdiction; Missouri licensure is strongly preferred, otherwise eligibility and willingness to obtain it by comity within an agreed onboarding period. Eight (8) or more years of progressively responsible A/E consulting or comparable mechanical-design experience, including building systems, construction-document delivery, and leadership of MEP teams. Strong command of applicable adopted building, mechanical, plumbing, energy, accessibility, and life-safety requirements, including relevant IBC, IMC, IPC, IECC, ASHRAE, and NFPA provisions. Experience with HVAC, controls, ventilation, hydronic or refrigerant distribution, equipment selection, energy compliance, construction services, and BIM coordination; proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD and familiarity with appropriate mechanical-design software. Strong technical judgment, leadership, communication, documentation, mentoring, professional ethics, multicultural-team skills, regular on-site attendance, and occasional business travel. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in mechanical engineering, architectural engineering, building science, energy systems, or a related field. Multiple state PE registrations and prior service as engineer of record, MEP department or team leader, mechanical discipline lead, or senior technical reviewer. Experience with central plants, heat-pump or decarbonization strategies, healthcare, laboratory, industrial, multifamily, mission-critical, renovation, commissioning, or advanced energy-modeling work. Work Location and Schedule This is a full-time, on-site position at DOTec's office at 118 North 2nd Street, Suite 200, St. Charles, Missouri 63301. The regular schedule is 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday. On-site presence is essential for MEP team leadership, supervision, mentoring, document review, and multidisciplinary coordination; no routine remote or hybrid arrangement is available. Occasional approved travel or site visits may be required. DOTec will consider reasonable accommodations as required by applicable law. Compensation, Benefits, and Growth Competitive compensation commensurate with experience, licensure, technical scope, leadership responsibility, and assigned duties.
