Job Description

Job Summary The Mechanical Engineering Intern supports new product development and product sustaining tasks for the company's Global Rack Power Distribution products for the Integrated Rack Solutions line of business. The Mechanical Engineering Intern uses mechanical CAD software to transform product specifications into a manufacturable product, then releases that design into the engineering Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system. The candidate must be a self-starter with a positive "make it happen" approach to meet multiple project goals and deliverables including product schedules, product design and manufacturability cost targets. The candidate must also manage complex development programs comprised of multiple and sometimes concurrent deliverables in a matrixed team environment interfacing with global internal and external (supplier/partner) team members.
Responsibilities:
  • Create drawings and bills of material for sheet metal and purchased parts.
  • Create 3D mechanical models using sheet metal and part modeling functionality of 3D mechanical CAD software.
  • Generate assembly drawings and product submittal drawings.
  • Collaborate across the disciplines of mechanical, electrical, and process engineering, as well as production and product offering teams.
  • Work with manufacturing engineers and production associates to build prototypes and provide direction when needed.
  • Write, submit, and release engineering changes in the PLM system.
Requirements:
  • Junior or Senior student studying for a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering degree with mechanical design experience.
  • Some experience in engineering design and product development preferred.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical 3D CAD modeling. CREO and/or SolidWorks preferred.
  • Electrical and electromechanical knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively within cross functional engineering teams.
  • Excellent planning, organizing, documentation, and communication skills.
