Job Description

Sussex County Community College is seeking qualified and experienced automotive professionals to serve as Adjunct Faculty in the Automotive Technology Program. The successful candidate will provide high-quality instruction in automotive theory, diagnostics, repair, maintenance, and emerging vehicle technologies while preparing students for successful employment in the automotive service industry. Adjunct faculty are responsible for delivering classroom, laboratory, and shop instruction that aligns with industry standards, manufacturer requirements, ASE competencies, and college learning outcomes. Faculty are expected to foster a safe, engaging, and student-centered learning environment while promoting professionalism, technical excellence, and workforce readiness. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Teach assigned automotive technology courses in both classroom and laboratory/shop settings. Deliver instruction in automotive systems including, but not limited to: Engine Repair Electrical/Electronic Systems Brakes Steering and Suspension Engine Performance HVAC Systems Manual and Automatic Transmissions Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Technologies Develop and implement lesson plans, demonstrations, laboratory exercises, and assessments. Evaluate student performance and maintain accurate academic records. Utilize the College's Learning Management System (Canvas) for course communication, grading, and instructional support. Maintain laboratory safety standards and ensure compliance with OSHA and industry best practices. Promote professionalism, employability skills, and ethical behavior within the automotive industry. Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum discussions, and program improvement initiatives as requested. Maintain current knowledge of automotive technologies, industry trends, and manufacturer service procedures. Required Qualifications Minimum of five (5) years of professional automotive service industry experience. Current ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification(s) preferred Demonstrated experience in automotive diagnostics, repair, and service operations. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to effectively teach and mentor students with diverse educational backgrounds. Day and evening availability Preferred Qualifications Previous teaching, training, mentoring, or workforce development experience. Experience working in dealership, fleet, independent repair, or specialized automotive service environments. Experience with hybrid and electric vehicle systems. Familiarity with
NATEF/ASE
Education Foundation standards. Experience using digital diagnostic equipment, OEM service information systems, and scan tools. Prior Higher Education teaching experience and teaching experience at the community college level is strongly preferred. The Learning Management System (LMS) that we use is Canvas. Prior knowledge of Canvas or a similar learning platform is preferred. Adjunct pay is based on $910 per credit hour. Sussex County Community College is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
