Job Title:
Mechanical Field Service Engineer Job Description This role focuses on performing inspections, engineering analysis, and on-site supervision to support in-house testing, installation, start-up, and service or repair of a wide range of industrial equipment. The Mechanical Field Service Engineer works directly with customers to ensure equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably, while also contributing to documentation, planning, and continuous improvement of field service activities. Responsibilities Perform a broad range of inspection, engineering, and supervisory tasks to support in-house testing, installation, start-up, and service or repair of industrial equipment. Travel extensively to customer sites domestically and internationally to install, commission, troubleshoot, and maintain motor-controlled hydraulic and pneumatic industrial machines. Diagnose and resolve issues with equipment controls, including troubleshooting PLCs and related electrical and mechanical systems. Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and blueprints to support installation, testing, and repair activities. Collaborate with customer teams during installation and start-up, providing clear guidance and support to ensure equipment is installed and commissioned correctly. Develop and write project plans, test plans, and equipment manuals to support consistent and high-quality field service delivery. Communicate effectively with customers and internal stakeholders to explain technical issues, provide status updates, and recommend solutions. Work closely with the field service team to share knowledge, coordinate schedules, and continuously improve service processes. Document service activities, findings, and recommendations in a clear and organized manner for internal records and customer reference. Adapt to a variety of industrial environments, ensuring safe and efficient execution of all field service tasks. Essential Skills Field Service Engineering experience working with motor-controlled hydraulic and pneumatic industrial machines. Ability to troubleshoot PLCs in an industrial environment. Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and blueprints. Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, including experience with controls and industrial equipment. Strong communication skills to assist companies with installation of new equipment and to support customers effectively. Knowledge and experience in writing project plans, test plans, and equipment manuals. Willingness and ability to travel extensively, up to approximately 70%, both domestically and internationally. Experience with mechanical systems such as hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Experience with electrical systems including PLCs, motor controls, and sensors. Additional Skills & Qualifications BS degree in Engineering is preferred. Previous field experience working with mechanical systems such as hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. Previous field experience working with electrical systems including PLCs, motor controls, and sensors. Ability to work effectively in diverse environments, including international locations with potential language barriers. Comfort working in hot, dirty, and heavy industrial environments such as foundries. Strong organizational skills for preparing documentation such as project plans, test plans, and manuals. Interest in long-term career growth within a field service engineering environment. Motivation to benefit from structured training and development to gain experience in the field. Work Environment This position involves a mix of office and field work. When not traveling, the Mechanical Field Service Engineer works on-site in an office setting alongside a small field service team, typically at a desk performing planning, documentation, and coordination activities. When traveling, the work environment varies based on customer location and industry. International travel may include assignments in regions such as China, Japan, and India, where language barriers may be present and industrial facilities can be hot and dirty. In the United States, assignments can occur at any customer location, with many customers operating foundry and other heavy industrial environments. All customer locations are described as safe. The role requires extensive travel of up to approximately 70%, both domestically and internationally, and regular interaction with industrial equipment, controls, and machinery in active production facilities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Westampton, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $33.65/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
