The Mission Concepts Group (E-2) is searching for a passionate and driven Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) to join our Risk and Systems Engineering team. You will be responsible for developing MBSE models to support urgent warfighter requirements, facilitating agile and responsive trail blazing operations. In E-2, we address emerging national security challenges with programmatic excellence and technical innovation by providing: Risk management and systems engineering solutions to Congressional Line-Item projects that effectively manage cost and schedule constraints while ensuring requirements verification. Novel optimization software to simulate multiscale multiphysics engineering and materials science applications for autonomous design. Additive manufacturing research and development in materials, sensor embedment, and mechanical design.
What You Need Minimum Job Requirements:
R D Engineer 1 ($96,600 - $158,000) Technical Expertise:
Familiarity with nuclear weapons development and design. Experience with one or more phases of the R D product lifecycle, including requirements generation, validation and verification (V&V), prototyping and testing. Ability to analyze existing and approved requirements documentation. Experience supporting management of models and derived work products in accordance with project configuration management and data management processes and standards. Communication & Teamwork:
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and effectively. Experience working effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. R D Engineer 2 ($106,400 - $176,000) In addition to the outlined responsibilities at the R D Engineer 1 level, the minimum requirements at the R D Engineering 2 level include: Technical Expertise:
Experience with the full R D product lifecycle, including requirements generation, validation and verification (V&V), prototyping and testing. Coursework or practical experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) (system model creation, usage, maintenance, execution, and analysis). Experience conducting walkthroughs and formal reviews of system requirements and architecture models developed using MBSE processes. Ability to perform detailed technical analyses of subsystems and system elements. Communication & Teamwork:
Provides peer review of work products across organizations and technical disciplines. Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff and peers in their technical and professional growth. Safety and Security:
Safety and security are primary responsibilities for all Laboratory employees. Position requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution related to the occupation combined with 2 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and technical experience directly related to the occupation. Education/Experience at high level:
Position requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution and 4 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Desired Qualifications:
Although not required, any number or combination of the following skills may make an applicant for this position more appealing to the hiring committee: Active DOE Q clearance. Experience interfacing with Department of War industry partners. Demonstrated expertise with using Cameo, MagicDraw, and/or Rhapsody (Cameo preferred) to develop models of system requirements, architecture/design, and interfaces. Ability to train others on MBSE concepts and tools and provide guidance and recommendations in related areas including development and test strategies. Work Location:
The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management. Position commitment:
Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Q (Position will be cleared to this level). This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
