Job Description

Designs precision tooling, fixtures, and workholding solutions for 5-axis grinding, CNC machining, and sinker EDM operations, ensuring accurate and repeatable positioning of complex aerospace turbine components. Job Requirements Extensive experience designing fixtures, tooling, and workholding systems for precision machining or grinding applications. Proficiency in Siemens NX, including 3D modeling, assembly design, and detailed engineering drawings. Advanced knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), including datum structures and tolerance stack-up analysis. Experience applying 6-point nesting and 3-2-1 locating principles to complex or contoured components. Knowledge of fixture manufacturing, assembly, and operation for CNC milling and sinker EDM equipment. Experience designing tooling for CNC milling machines, including Haas or similar equipment. Ability to read, interpret, and create engineering drawings according to
ASME Y14.5
standards. Experience developing precision workholding solutions that ensure dimensional accuracy and repeatable part positioning. Knowledge of fixture design principles, component locating methods, and machining requirements. Preferred Skills Experience designing fixtures for aerospace or power generation turbine components, including blades, vanes, and nozzles. Experience designing grinding fixtures for 5-axis or creep-feed grinding operations. Familiarity with Makino G-Series grinding centers. Knowledge of clamping forces, part distortion, and thermal effects during grinding operations. Experience working with nickel-based superalloy components. Familiarity with Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) inspection processes and inspection fixture design. Experience supporting precision machining and EDM operations for complex airfoil geometries. Knowledge of AS9100 quality management standards or similarly regulated manufacturing environments. Experience designing fixtures for thin-walled or complex contoured components. Job Responsibilities Design precision tooling, fixtures, and workholding systems for 5-axis grinding, CNC machining, and sinker EDM operations. Develop fixture designs for complex turbine components, including blades, vanes, nozzles, and other precision airfoil geometries. Utilize Siemens NX to create 3D fixture models, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings. Review existing part models and engineering specifications to determine fixture design and locating requirements. Apply 3-2-1 locating principles and datum schemes to ensure accurate and repeatable component positioning. Perform GD&T evaluations and tolerance stack-up analyses to verify fixture accuracy and manufacturing compatibility. Develop workholding solutions that maintain part stability and dimensional accuracy during machining and grinding operations. Evaluate clamping forces, component distortion, and thermal effects when developing fixture designs. Design fixtures compatible with Makino G-Series grinding centers and other 5-axis or creep-feed grinding equipment. Develop tooling and workholding solutions for Haas or similar CNC milling machines and sinker EDM equipment. Create detailed engineering drawings, assembly documentation, and tooling specifications in accordance with
ASME Y14.5.
Evaluate fixture manufacturability, component accessibility, and equipment compatibility. Support fixture fabrication, assembly, installation, and validation activities. Investigate fixture-related machining issues and implement design modifications to improve accuracy and repeatability. Support precision inspection requirements through fixture designs compatible with CMM measurement processes. Coordinate fixture design requirements with manufacturing engineering, machining, grinding, and quality personnel. Maintain accurate tooling models, design revisions, and engineering documentation. Implement fixture design improvements to reduce setup variation, improve machining accuracy, and enhance manufacturing efficiency.
