Mechanical Engineer Job Description This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on designing air compressor facilities and developing new heating and cooling systems, with an emphasis on hydronic systems and heat transfer. You will serve as a key contributor in a growing business area, taking primary responsibility for the design of new cooling systems integrated with air compression solutions, while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to improve safety, quality, serviceability, and cost. Responsibilities Design air compressor facilities and collaborate with manufacturing teams to support efficient and reliable production. Develop new heating and cooling systems, with a strong focus on hydronics and heat transfer performance. Conduct detailed design reviews with safety, manufacturing, service, project management, and other internal teams to ensure compliance, reliability, and maintainability. Create detailed component designs and documentation and provide these to manufacturing to support accurate and timely builds. Design with continuous improvement in mind, focusing on enhancing safety, quality, serviceability, and overall product cost-effectiveness. Create and maintain bills of materials and work closely with operations to ensure accurate ordering and availability of required items. Develop standardized procedural documents to streamline processes and support consistent specification and improvement of equipment. Interface with the manufacturing department to efficiently design, specify, and troubleshoot production issues related to air compressor and cooling systems. Collaborate with the sales department and installation team to correctly specify and design solutions that meet customer requirements and application needs. Partner with the service department to design products that improve serviceability, ease of maintenance, and long-term reliability. Support the introduction of cooling systems on top of air compressed systems by serving as the primary designer for these new integrated solutions. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. At least 3 years of hydronics design experience, including practical application of fluid dynamics and heat transfer principles. Proficiency in creating engineering drawings and models using AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks. Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals related to compressors, cooling systems, and heat transfer. Ability to collaborate effectively with manufacturing, safety, service, sales, project management, and operations teams. Capability to prepare bills of materials and technical documentation to support production and procurement. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for designing and troubleshooting mechanical systems. Effective communication skills to present designs, lead design reviews, and translate technical requirements across departments. Additional Skills & Qualifications Understanding of the International Building Code (IBC) and its application to mechanical system design. Experience with sheet metal design for enclosures, ducting, or related mechanical components. Understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and basic electrical routing considerations as they relate to mechanical systems. Familiarity with specialty gases such as nitrogen and argon and their implications for system design and safety. Experience designing systems that operate around high pressures, including appropriate material selection and safety considerations. Prior experience in designing integrated systems that combine air compressors with cooling or heating solutions. Experience in developing standardized procedures and documentation to support consistent engineering and production practices. Work Environment This role is based in the Cincinnati, OH area and follows a standard on-site schedule of five days per week. The position involves up to approximately 10% travel, which may include visits to customer sites, manufacturing locations, or other company facilities for design reviews, installations, or troubleshooting. You will work in a collaborative engineering and manufacturing environment that uses tools such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks, and you will regularly interact with operations, sales, service, and project management teams. The setting supports hands-on involvement with production and equipment, providing direct visibility into how your designs perform in real-world applications and offering a strong platform for professional growth as the organization expands its cooling systems offerings. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cincinnati, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $57.69/hr.
