Job Title:
Project Engineer - Infrastructure Job Description The Project Engineer - Infrastructure plays a key role in executing project engineering activities that support the infrastructure function of the business. This position leads multidisciplinary engineering efforts, coordinates closely with project management, procurement, and clients, and ensures that projects meet scope, schedule, quality, and documentation requirements. The role involves working across mechanical, structural, electrical, and control systems, particularly within industrial machinery and engineered fixed equipment environments. Responsibilities Coordinate engineering input to support the development and maintenance of project schedules. Collaborate with department leaders and other stakeholders to ensure alignment, effective planning, and successful execution of project work. Work closely with the engineering department and project managers to ensure adherence to project schedules, including all engineering activities required to support procurement. Monitor and coordinate schedule updates and submittals, ensuring timely and accurate information flow. Liaise with internal and external clients and project leaders to determine applicable design codes and establish overall design criteria for projects. Ensure all engineering work complies with approved manuals, procedures, and established standards. Maintain the engineering scope and project intent by interpreting scope, identifying budget deviations, and assessing potential change orders. Coordinate the cost and schedule impacts of scope changes with project leaders and other stakeholders. Implement approved project changes and communicate associated schedule impacts to relevant managers and teams. Verify adherence to project quality processes and support continuous improvement of engineering practices. Conduct recurring design coordination meetings with project teams to promote cross-departmental collaboration and resolve design issues. Coordinate with Project Management and Procurement to establish proper document distribution for both internal and external stakeholders. Manage engineering field support and communication through the RFI system, ensuring timely responses and clear documentation. Review and provide engineering input for weekly and monthly project status reports, including costs, schedule performance, and potential changes. Participate in project review meetings to report on engineering status, risks, and mitigation plans. Perform other engineering and project-related responsibilities as required or assigned to support successful project execution. Essential Skills Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural. 5+ years of experience leading multidisciplinary projects involving mechanical, structural, electrical, and control systems in the execution of projects and proposals. Experience working with engineered fixed equipment within the industrial machinery space. Proven experience in project management, including planning, coordination, and execution of engineering activities. Experience with procurement processes and standards, including supporting purchasing through timely release of engineering deliverables. Experience with commissioning and start-up standards and documentation for industrial systems. Ability to coordinate engineering activities against project schedules and manage competing priorities. Strong skills in project management tools and methods to track scope, schedule, and cost impacts. Experience with industrial manufacturing methods and design within an industrial manufacturing environment. Ability to interface effectively with customers and internal stakeholders to define requirements and resolve issues. Experience with mechanical systems, electrical systems, and control systems in an industrial context. Hands-on experience with sheet metal, machining, and fabrication processes. Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling and design. Experience with commissioning activities, including testing and validation of systems. Ability to conduct root cause analysis and support problem resolution in engineering and manufacturing environments. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with material handling systems. Experience in abrasive blasting or corrosion-control equipment. Experience with industrial fixed equipment beyond core machinery. Familiarity with HVAC systems and their integration into industrial projects. Experience with computational tools such as CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and FEA (Finite Element Analysis). Experience with Revit for coordination with building and infrastructure models. Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus. Experience in process development within industrial or manufacturing environments. Strong communication and collaboration skills for effective cross-functional teamwork. Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks while maintaining attention to detail. Work Environment This role is based in an updated, open office environment that supports collaboration and frequent interaction with cross-functional teams. The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with some flexibility as needed to meet project demands. The position involves approximately 20% travel for job site visits and client meetings, providing direct exposure to industrial machinery, engineered fixed equipment, and commissioning activities. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Columbus, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $48.08 - $57.69/hr.
